I purchased the new Airpods 4 with noise cancellation when I was in the US last week; in the past I have owned the Pros but could not get on with the silicone ear tips (anything that covers or goes in my ears makes me nauseous), so I thought I would try a set. I’m impressed, and whilst the noise cancellation is never going to be as good as over ear headphones, they did a really good job of reducing the (constant) noise on the flight back home, and they sound pretty good too.

Just got an email from Apple, the value of my trade in has gone from £400 to £0 !

Could understand if it went down a bit but it’s apparently worth nothing ?

It was pretty decent condition, everything worked.

Think they are taking the pee, so it’s coming back, may as well keep it as a spare

Did same to me with an iPad. Pretty annoying as I’m sure a lot of people buy based on the quoted value of a trade in and a genuine belief of condition. But you have to pay in full first so you’re st out of luck unless you don’t open it until trade in is confirmed.

I kept mine as a spare too.

I used music magpie to sell my iPhone 13 Pro Max this week, £370 and used the drop off kiosk in a local Asda, checks the condition with the option to return if your not happy, I was and money in the bank instantly

Magpie are quoting me exactly the same price as Apple trade in for my 15 Pro. Not sure whether to trade up, as delivery/ pick up is nearly a month, keep it, or pay off the finance, let my daughter have it and then get a 16?

Just not sure what was up with it, battery had dropped to 82 percent and it had a couple of small marks but it had been used for two years, kept in a folding (dad) case.

Hopefully they return it intact and the correct one !

Can cost the extra, it’s just annoying and disappointing as honestly thought it was pretty decent.

Bet a lot of folk can’t find £400 like that.

I’ve only tried Apple trade in once, and had the same issue with a MacBook being valued as nothing because they didn’t like the fully working screen and it had some scuffs.

There was a long delay in getting it processed to start with, now I use music magpie for all my trade ins.

Sometimes their quotes are £50 or more better than the Apple quote plus they are quick to process the review and payments. I’ve used them for trade in on several devices, and also bought from them too.

Yep, they did that to me some years ago. Now I’ll only do the trade in store.

I sold my (non-Pro) 13 to Music Magpie recently. They have removed the kiosk from my nearest Asda so I did it via post, but was painless and had the money in my account the day after they signed for it (not same-day, but a minor quibble). Would sell to them again for sure, much less potential aggro than eBay.

Keep discovering new features on iPhone 16 iOS 18..

Swiping down from top right of screen opens Control Centre which now has a power off button.

Calculator app has a neat conversation facility, tap the calculator icon on bottom left of screen.

Freezing bugs are being reported, I dont' think it's long until 18.0.1 is released.

I got an email off them saying the money couldnt be taken for the balance, rang Apple and spoke to a very helpful lady.

She said the phone had come back as "Unknown Part" listed for the camera, hence the return.

I said that the phone had been with me, in my possession for two years, had been ordered from Apple direct, put in a case, used and then traded in, it had never been to be repaired so not sure how it could have unknown parts ? Its never been out of my sight.

I expect its some mismatch at their end or software issue, the camera was working perfectly.

She has escalated it, I made it clear i was a little aggrieved, but she said that there is not that much she can do as I elected to have it returned, but she didnt take any money, didnt mention the cash. I didnt have that email until the payment failed so not sure how I could have discussed it, seemed a pretty done deal, either we bin it or send it back.

So, will see what happens. I pointed out that last time it went fine, hence why I trade in, to avoid the hassle of selling phones to randoms,

Seems its not unusual,

Surely with the technology that Apple have, they can have you run the diagnostics on the device before giving you the quote, rather than having to send it in. Not that it would help in this situation where the diagnostics has given a false result.

I was tempted by the 16pro due to cameras and general improvements, so when I was near an apple store I popped it but it's just too big for me and I much prefer the size of my 13 mini.

Sadly I dont see them bringing back a decent mini version.

The actually do have this functionality and its always been a mystery to me why they don't use this in device trade ins!

I also prefer the smaller iPhones, loved my 12 mini. I reckon that a folding iPhone can’t be too far away.

On 18, im getting emails not downloading until the app is opened even though I have the badge on the mail app showing them.

Maybe that is a feature.

Well, this will be interesting, I owe them £370 odd, but they arent getting a penny from me, they need acknowledge that this is their problem and not mine, that phone had not been opened, phone is on its way back apparently so be interesting to see what they do if I have the phone and the cash, I think they are good for it biggrin
