I’m in Dubai from the 21st for a week so hoping I can get a 16pro in duty free when I’m there.

Apple will give me at the moment £330 trade in for my 13Pro... lets see what that drops to the second the 16Pro is released.

I bought a refurbed 12 mini from Apple 6 months ago, which I’m really happy with. Battery lasts fine as I’m not a power user.

I also prefer the smaller phones, is Apple make a new mini I’ll get one, if not I’ll get a 13 mini next.

I just spotted my 15 is on 93% battery capacity, not even had it a year yet. Think I’ll be trading it in! eek

Got my 15 Pro Max in Nov 23. Had 208 charge cycles and still at 100% health.

I still love my iPhone 12 Mini, which I bought in late 2020. I'm hesitant to upgrade to anything newer due to the larger size of the phones. I'll likely just book it in for a new battery and keep it for another 2-3 years ... smile

I had one of those and also loved the size. It did everything I wanted but the battery life was awful, it wouldn’t last a full day.

My wife was filling up the memory on her 12 mini so wanted to upgrade to the 13 mini but couldn't get one from Apple so reluctantly upgraded to the 15 pro, the size isn't too bad (she has bags rather than pockets) but it's the weight of the thing that annoys her. I'm still on my 12 mini, battery maximum capacity is down to 86% so I'll also be getting a new battery before the end of the year and keeping it a few more years.

I honestly can’t imagine having a complaint about any iPhone being too heavy. Maybe get down the shed and do some wrist exercises!

Just bear in mind that almost nothing in Duty Free is cheaper than in the regular U.K. shops. Those duty free shops pay a hefty rent for the property, and have to pay that somehow.
Alcohol, yes, almost everything else, no.

If Apple do a smaller phone now it will be a flip phone and they will find a way of saying they were first hehe

Agreed.

You can often get a better deal on Amazon than you can in any shop, even Duty Free. I'm not saying that Amazon will have £100 off the new 16 when it comes out, but they are generally the best place to buy Apple products due to their fairy consistent discounts off iPhones, MacBooks etc.

The other thing to factor in is that when you buy an iPhone abroad you don’t get any UK consumer protection (which in effect means at least two years cover), only the Apple one year warranty.

Have they signed Adrian Newey though? Will he appear alongside Tim Cook?

Here for the "Bring the Mini back" crowd.

As per other threads, I've been using an SE I found in the bin at work for a couple of years now, and in terms of utility, It's no worse than the giant Note 10+ I had before - I can get everything done, I spend less time doomscrolling (Part of the idea of getting something more stripped back) and it goes into a pocket, bag, or car cubby without having to play tetris.

I don't mind suffering a bit of battery life hit for a smaller form factor - It's much easier to carry a small phone around with 4-5 hours of "in use" battery life, as even a small power bank will recharge it ~5 Times (SE is 1800mAh, Small battery bank is 10,000mAh) - The small battery bank can get lobbed into a bag etc. on the odd chance you're going to be away from power for that long.

Most of the giant phones leave you in the same situation anyway, as their big glossy screens and mega-chips eat the bigger battery life, leaving you to carry a giant phone and giant power bank everywhere.

I'm praying the new SE takes the formfactor of the old pro-mini, If not, come end of support I'll be back to Android.

It partially caused me backache. This was diagnosed by the chiropractor. I kept it in my manbag and yeah 240g isn't alot by itself but the leverage-at-a-distance, whatever you call it, caused lower back pain. Anyway the 6.7" screen was perfect so it's getting a bit too big for my pockets!

I know we're getting off topic here a lot but the big Android makers just aren't making small phones either, these are the search results on GSMArena for phones released 2021 or later, iOS or Android and less than 140mm tall (bear in mind the 13mini is actually 132mm):

https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMin=202...

Not exactly a list of the big phone manufacturers!

To get an Android from a company I've heard of later than 2022 you have to go up to 150mm which brings you into iPhone 15 territory (the Android phones are the Samsung S24 and Asus Zenfone 10)

As has been said, smaller phones just don’t sell in any numbers that make them worthwhile to a manufacturer.

I know a couple of people who were excited when the iPhone 13 Mini came out, bought them, then raved about how nice it was to have something so compact and light in their pocket and in their hand.

After about 12 months they had morphed into saying that they found the screen too small and the battery life too short. They have now gone back to a standard size model.

It’s looking like the iPhone 16 will be even bigger than the current models. Sadly not much chance of a mini.

I think bigger screen but phone dimensions the same, even smaller bezels. And a camera button! I had one on my Sont phone 20 years ago and it was brilliant. Surprised it's taken Apple 20 years to copy it.

Siri AI/general AI is what I'm most interested in this year.
