Do you chaps really, really think the govt/"da man" don't already have full access to your meaningful ID docs (clue - they provide these wink) and mortgage information (should they require it)?

Seriously?
Not just the government. Weaken encryption for the government and you weaken it for every bad actor.
I do wish people would stop saying that. The encryption is NOT being "weakend".
It was a hypothetical. I didn't say that's what is happening.

Anyway, the big problem here is not the encryption of the data but RIPA, or IPA as it is now known. It is a truly godawful piece of legislation that was passed by authoritarian morons with the sum total of fk all knowledge of the technicalities behind it. If you want to rail against someone or something then that would be a target far more beneficial to all.
I can agree with that.

It's nothing to do with "'da man" (fk me, that's weak and patronising at the same time), nor tin foil hats (to save you throwing that one in). It's just bloody obvious. Inept government departments are not the people I want holding access to my personal data that can be used to access my money.

...
Weak argument seemed de rigeur on this topic so thought I'd join in the fun biggrin

The govt already hold the keys to the most important info most of us have. So too late for that.

But as noted, nothing they have done here impacts your banking unless you're being silly (which clearly you aren't).

Or unless you want to protect any of your banking creds or data using ADP.

If by "banking creds" you mean the username and password and maybe the 2FA for your bank account(s) then they will most likely be stored in iCloud Keychain and that is E2E encrypted by default. Nothing is changing there.

Did you read the lists of data types posted earlier and what is and isn't E2E encrypted?

I have elsewhere. The categories excluded backup and drive though, which essentially could exclude any data types from the protection.

Not entirely surprising given what they do. They are no doubt seeing (unencrypted) writing on the wall.
