Thanks to all those who made suggestions.

Think I'll buy a Motorola Edge 60 Fusion or another in the Edge range.
Good choice.
Finding it difficult to choose between the multiple versions - 40, 50, 60, Fusion, neo. Hard to find out what the differences in specs actually are for £250 - £300.

Nothing 3a or the CMF 2 Pro would seem like excellent choices here IMO
CMF Phone 2 Pro seems to hit all requirements for £249
I have. Nothing 2a, which can be had for £243 (but only 128Gb( on Amazon now. For my usage (not intensive) it is great....and would fit the OPs needs.

I expect the CMF would be equally good .....

Poor reviews, particularly screen res & camera.
Curious given the reviews are all excellent and saying it’s the best budget smart phone on the market - what are you seeing that is the opposite of all this??!

I've decided (or as is usually said on PistonHeads "pulled the trigger") on the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion & the OEM 68W charger.

After a week or so of use I'll post my impressions of the phone.

Again, thanks to those who offered advice & opinions.

Now had my Motorola Edge60 Fusion for just over a week. Compared with my previous 2019 Honor 90 Lite it runs much faster, has a much larger battery (5200) & charges much faster (10 - 100%) in an hour. Easily lasts for a day & a half. Unlike the Honor I can read the screen in bright sunlight & so also see what I am photographing.

Wi-Fi poorer - no connection in top bedroom or on patio at rear of house. There was a decent connection with the Honor.

Google calendar no way as usable, or as well displayed, as the Honor supplied one. Can anyone recommend a decent free calendar app?

Connection to my old self-built PC still running Win7 is easy & file transfer just works. With my HP laptop running Win11 damn Google Drive tries to take over & backup when I just want to directly transfer files to the laptop.

My Edge 50 Neo has crap wifi reception also. I turned down the wifi signal frequency which helped.

Odd that google calendar performance is an issue, but good review overall. Shame about the wifi performance though.

I was slightly leaning towards the Motorola Edge60 because it has an SD card slot.

However maybe I should embrace the cloud a touch more (already fully backed up to google images) and get a Samsung A56 5G?

I'm looking for a new phone too, with similar requirements (£300 budget, similar spec - but with more of an emphasis on the camera quality).

How are the cameras on the Moto Edge phones? I'd say that is a higher priority for me - so the Edge 50 Neo looks quite good with the telephoto etc. I've seen a few reviews saying there are problems with Android Auto though, has that been fixed?

Android Auto on my Edge60 Fusion works fine with my car. Fast connection & stayed connected on a 3 hour journey. I mainly use it for Google Maps sat-nav & occasionally Spotify.

Yeah, I use Android Auto daily it works good, as does the camera. Fast processor, excellent battery life, sharp bright screen and a good speaker etc Moto's are nice quality i've found.

Damn. Less than 2 weeks after buying my Motorola Edge60 Fusion direct from Motorola it's £40 cheaper in the Amazon Prime sale. Still, at least Motorola sent me a free tee-shirt; which I'll never wear except as a pyjama top.
