I saw that (as expected) Photobox are now doing hardbound 20 page books (for £20). I've just ordered one so will let you know re: quality. I've been very pleased with the photo paper prints from photobox, but not so impressed with the matt calendars etc. So expectations are neutral.

The on-line software is bloody good I have to say... giving you lots and lots of varables in the design. Too slow on dialup mind!

Check out the blurb here: www.photobox.co.uk/widestatic/newsletter.html

Cracking interface for setting the books up, might well try one out soon. Be interested to hear your thoughts on the quality once yours shows up.

bob

I was also having some stress with the site yesterday. I think it was obviously new software glitch time. Things seem to be ok now, I just revisited my 'book' and it was saved and can be viewed correctly.

Well (again) you can't knock Photobox for speed. Ordered at about 12.20, dispatched at 15.57 - should be here tomorrow or Saturday I guess.

Got the book first thing this morning (so next day delivery!)... and I have to say I'm impressed. The printed pages are semi gloss, colours are good and photos sharp. A quality product. Not stunning, but good.

If I had to crit... well the paper is a bit thin - I mean if you buy a really expensive book of photography, then you get thick paper which really helps the print quality and feel... but for an off the shelf product that one can compile oneself and get next day delivery, it's pretty bloody good.

£20 is a bit steep mind.

I guess it's ideal for what I did, which is about 35 photos from the village fete - which can now be passed around to those locals (lots) without internet.

I guess next up it will be 30 pics of Charlie for the mother in laws birthday pressie.

About to send one off later on after I get the Mrs. to help me think up captions for all the pictures.

Steve did you fill in captions? If not, is it noticeable that captions are absent, or is it just white space around the images?

I did no Captions (except on the first page). As you say, just white space: looks fine.

Make sure you move the photo around in the box to get the best bit of any shot... and careful about putting important bits RIGHT next to the edge, one of mine was very slghly clipped.

when you first mentioned these i was expecting them to be a bit naff, but i can see that they have the potential to be a half decent personalised present for someone.
certainly worth considering
