Hi guys.

I'd like Push email functionality on an XDA Mini S / any other windows mobile device.

To do this properly I need MSFP installed as an addition to Windows Mobile 5.0. Anyone got this? Used it? Set it up on their exchanges?

Any help apperciated. We're a blackberry shop, but the Amercians are getting edgy about the possibilty of losing it, so need a backup plan!

Thanks, James.

It's only just been rolled out to the Phone Carriers (MSFP), and Orange in my case, are planning to release in March.

Apparantly it's the same for all the phone carriers.

I was a bit pissed to say the least to find that once I had paid through the nose for my Orange SPV M5000, that I couldn't actually use it properly for it's killer application - push email.

Once you have the MSFP it'll be a piece of piss to use, and free. Can't say fairer than that.

So with this push email you get the headers pushed to you for nothing?

Is that the idea?

The idea is that your exchange server will send a 'trigger' to yuor device, which will then in turn cause the device to pull down the email.

Bit cheeky, but the most efficient way of pushing email, and hence why the carriers need to configure the MSFP to their network settings so the triggers know how to route to the devices.

I'm looking forward to seeing it work as its a killer app, free apart from the data downloaded by the device.

Ahhh, I have something similar already in that case...

When an email comes into Outlook and contains the relavent triggers to notify I have a little bit of VB which, if I am out of the office, sends a text message from an old cheap phone connected to the PC to my other mobile with the header info. I then dialup using IMAP to read the mail remotely.

Would be interested to see a protocol driven implementation of this though.

The first version of this MS did used the exchange sever to send a specially formatted sms to your window mobile (2002, 2003) based smart phone/pda at which point the phone interpreted the sms and then did a check back to the exchange server.

This version requires windows mobile 5 on the device. I've read that the device keeps a constant http connection to the exchange server to be notified of new mail it then does a download like the sms version.

I used it in it's former incarnation as Smartner Duality and found it to be excellent. Haven't tried this new version yet tho'
