Screaming.net now Tiscali email settings

My father has had a screaming.net email address which has passed through a variety of takeovers eventually to tiscali. Before anyone says company x are better than Tiscali I probably agree with you but he WILL NOT change from Tiscali.
Until a few days ago everything was fine. Tiscali seem to have had some outage and since then we can't get his mail to work. I have updated the pop3 and smtp servers to the ones listed on Tiscali's website.
The issue comes with the username and password part. The email address was of the following pattern <anything>@<anything>.screaming.net
I have to use the login of <anything>@screaming.net to access webmail and I presume this is also true for OE settings.
It connects without a problem but anymail sent to the proper format address does not reach me. Neither do I get a notice that it has not been sent. Mail sent to <anything>@screaming.net works fine but this is not the email address.
Tiscali help at 50p/minute seem unable to help and tell me they will return my call in 24 hours.
Can anyone enlighten me?
