The Desire is being released, T Mobile have just announced its available for new customers, and apparently current customers can have it from 1st April. I've just been onto TMob and they've offered me a 24 month deal - £20 for the phone and £20 a month for 300 mins, unlimited text unlimited web which looks a good deal....

I've not been a massive phone fan in the past and have generally got away with cheap contracts on older mobiles but since the end of last year, I've become more and more interested in smartphones/iphones and I love gadgets. The possibilities with Apps stores make these handsets much more than a phone and as such I'm looking to jump on that bandwagon. I just hope I'm making the right choice in choosing Android over iPhone. A mate of mine has been bleating on about his iPhone explaining that his is jailbroken and as such can do anything. If iPhones were available on a contract less than the £35 that it is, then I might be tempted but I cant justify the cost of the 16 or 32gb model

Don't know about Android, but my 5 year old HTC Tytn is still in the Windows Mobile days and I think it is fantastic. It's like iPhone apps before iPhone existed: I can trade with it (Metatrader 4 forex trading and IG Index spreadbetting), create MS Word docs, read ebooks, navigate with satnav (ZorroGPS - cheap and even recalculates routes), create music (Griff music studio) and create synth/trance samples (Aurora - if you know what the Korg Kaosilator is like, it's a lot like one of those). I have no need for anything else.
Looks like you can use VPS for a link to your desktop over the airwaves. So that makes your HTC able to do anything your desktop can do!

I got the Google Nexus One last week which is basically the same phone and am very impressed with it. There aren't as many apps on the Android market as there are for Apple at present, but I think that could reverse as there are a large number of handset manufacturers (HTC, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG) using Android so the popularity is only going to increase.

Yeah, they said with my current deal I could go for that, but will have to contact me once its in to confirm. 18 month deals can be had for £20pm but its about £160 for the phone. Im tempted to wait and see what the other networks are doing but it seems a very good deal. Considering I'm now paying £22 a month on an old £15pm 100 mins 100 texts plus £7 internet a month, its a cracking offer! N95 is going to be recycled for about £80 too

What is their 3G coverage like compared to Orange and O2's?
I am currently with O2 (iPhone) and have been unimpressed with their 3G coverage on my Central London to North Kent Commute.
(I understand that T-Mobile and Orange have merged so that could end up being the strongest coverage network in the UK but I doubt we'll see any re-branding or coverage differences for a year or so.)

(I understand that T-Mobile and Orange have merged so that could end up being the strongest coverage network in the UK but I doubt we'll see any re-branding or coverage differences for a year or so.)
I've been holding off on upgrading since November when my contract ran out, decided I wanted one of these and T-Mobile seem to be a complete shower at the moment, no-one can give me any solid info on when I can confirm the upgrade and get one.
It's all very well letting your new customers get one, but I've been with them 9 years now and you'd think they'd at least show some courtesy to their existing customer base.

The coverage checker on their website is pretty good. Also there was an option when I ordered at the bottom of the screen for a 7 day money back guarantee if I didnt think the coverage was up to much.Can anyone comment on how good T-Mobile are?

The big difference for me though, and why I went Nexus over Desire was that the Desire doesn't have the second microphone for noise cancelling. My last phone was great as a camera & texting device but terrible as a phone, I wanted to make sure that first and foremost I could hold a conversation on my new one. The NX1 is leagues above my old phone for this (I have no idea how good the Desire is on this of course).
Also, Sense is all very well and nice, but a friend of mine is a little frustrated with it (on a Hero) as you have to wait for HTC to update Sense to go on top of new versions of Android, and there's no easy update over air. He's still on 1.5 and I'm on 2.1.

i'm being a bore, getting the iphone if all goes well!though there will probably be a new iphone in a short while knowing what apple are like!! i might try and wait till july for the 4th gen though i change my mind every day!
eta i've heard the htc is a better handset!

I'm moving from the Iphone 3G to this so will let you know, this does look a hell of a lot better thougheta i've heard the htc is a better handset!
