Well, had this phone now for two days after coming from an htc desire, what do i think of it?IT'S SOOO SLOOWWW!!!!Cor blimey, cant believe im thinking of ending contract after looking forward to getting this phone so much.
First off, emails.Painfully slow!Go into the client, start freshing to get new emai,10 minutes later(well it was last night)it shows i have an email, but,it then starts to show 'loading messages'to even show me the content!!That went on for another 5 minutes so i gave up.
Android market, forget it,was slow on htc, impossible on this.Phone call quality, terrible! This was the biggest shocker, phoned my mate as soon as i got the phone,it sounded like he was in a cardboard box!(He isn,t homeless by the way the way,i can see his house from here!)he said same about my voice.
Good points? You can see all these faults on a lovely big screen!:-)The phones just slow in general compared to htc one, even locks up if you rush it?Dont really know what to go for now, sort of put me off smartphones now, think they just try to cram too much in?
How are you linking to the internet - WiFi or phone signal? Those issues sound like it's on a 3G connection, not HSDPA. With a good high speed signal, mine suffers from none of the above. I get constant email alerts, even at work - takes a second or two.

Sounds like you got a dodgy one; mine is none of what you describe, and believe me, I've had most of them, including some of your beloved HTCs (which, Sense aside, generally are not great handsets, in my view).
Can't remember describing my Htc as being 'beloved,i hated that as well lol,it was just better than the s2.

How can it put you off smartphones? .
The more i fall for all the hype about these new phones, the more i realise they're sticking boffins in a room, telling them to cram loads of great features into a phone that wont necessarily work alongside each other, rush them out into the market full of glitches, then we all wait around for months on software updates that don,t fix the issues 9 times out of 10.
My god, this is turning into a script for ' One foot in the grave'I think i'll stop now.....

Yes, because your experience is the same as the millions of other sgs2 owners out there and all the smartphone users. Are you sure its not a duff handset or a problem with the user? tongue out

I put an official Polish ICS flash on mine the other day. Not blown away by the difference from 2.3 tbh, missing Flash from the browser. Battery went a bit crazy at first but seems to be settling down now to be similar to before.

Also can't turn off camera sounds, and they're really frikking loud.... seems you can't change it without rooting.

I was expecting the upgrade to wipe everything, but it hasn't! Might go for a wipe & official uk flash when it's avaialble.

If you have a 14 day cooling off period swap it out for thr Galaxy Nexus, it has pure Android on it and is a much much nicer experience than stty touchwiz

The fanboys on here will point out that the spec is inferior which it is but specs dont tell the whole story, I had an SGS2 for 6 months and while it was ok it was mainly the screen that I liked, the user experience was IMO poor

To be honest, I've tried ICS on the S2 in the form of a couple of custom ROMs and I've gone back to Gingerbread, as it simply is snappier, more responsive and better on battery life.

The only ICS ROM I'll be trying when the bugs are fixed is probably CM9 as its AOSP Android which is the purest... but to be fair, I seem to be one of the rare people who actually think TouchWiz is OK.

I dont know anything about custom ROMs but I would imagine in that case there is something wrong with them ICS on my Nexus is far quicker slicker and generally better to use than Gingerbread a LOT less buggy too I havent had a single crash since I have had it

I am sure some ROMs do make the SGS2 better to use but some people (myself included) just want a really good OS out the box

ICS on the SGS2 is very young though compared with GB which has now had all its faults ironed out. I'd imagine in time the difference will be negligible, but right now, GB is best for me.

To be fair if I were choosing between the two now I'd go Nexus, but I've got 9 months left of my contract. Probably just in time for the next Nexus smile

Litening is pretty good, I used it for a while until I wanted to try ICS.

Dead easy to install, just follow the steps in the link to the letter. Jobs a goodun.

I preferred CheckROM v6 personally.

Good shout, ta smile Nice to be rid of the unremovable Orange apps. Once there is a stable version of Cyanogen ICS I will go to that and loose the Samsung bits too. Shouldn't take them long now the officials are out.

Just loaded up Kies on my laptop with great excitement and it says I'm using the latest firmware? Thought it was officially being released today?

Would rather not try the unoffical ones atm.

Without wanting to tempt fate, I upgraded to ICS and it seems to have corrected my battery drain issues - down to 1-2% per hour instead of the 10% I was experiencing.

Also finding the general responsiveness is better with ICS - pleased so far.

Anybody got any experience of using the Samsung higher capacity battery, and also does the phone output direct to an HDMI TV with a suitable cable adapter?

I've got the extended battery, it seems to have added a couple hours more battery life, downside is that it won't fit in cases due to increased thickness.
