I'm beginning to regret upgrading to ICS now, it hasn't added enough to the phone (access to Chrome was the only reason I did it) and has made the phone more unstable, slightly more laggy and the battery usage is worse. Apparently the battery problem has been fixed in 4.0.4 but I'm guessing it will take a while for this to make its way through the various QA departments frown

for Vodafone users - update from www.sammobile.com
Vodafone:
The Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S II has now been approved, and is set to be available on 12th April via Over The Air update and Samsung KIES. This is a provisional date which could change, but we’ll let you know here if that’s the case.

Hmm just updated yesterday and not much has changed indeed. I do love the new multitask menu (hold "home" button).
Overall it's just as "snappie" as 2.3 on my phone, if not faster. The browser is better, the "patern to unlock" screen is better and that's about all I found.

Oh also, I think it's because of the fonts but I'm not sure, I get the feeling the phone has become "bigger", making even better use of the screen real estate.

I'll update on the battery later today, by mid-day I usually know what I should have got left.

Vodafone are st, yes.

However, its the Galaxy S2 that does not implement OTA updates because Samsung decided we should all pull our hair out and use Kies.

But then, I've stopped using Samsungs firmwares now, and instead use CM9. I won't be going back.
What is CM9 and how to i get it. sorry am total tt/nood on andriod. feel free to call me any others names(really don't mind) lol

Hmm I have discovered an issue with ICS and the bluetooth in the Panda. It detects it and allows me to enter a pin however it never stops pairing.

Official update?

I've yet to try it, was in the Alfa yesterday but didn't check if bluetooth was paired correctly.

I've been using it since yesterday, charged this night, still on 80% now, which is quite good for my usage (lots of mails, browsing).
So far I'm very pleased, but it's only the first day of course.

I'd go CM9. They are nightly builds, so just go with the latest one IMO.

This is coming from a ROM junkie. I've tried them all. I REALLY like CM9. It is surprisingly stable (as in probably more than Samsungs official ICS offerings) for something that still isn't even regarded as BETA.

AOSP FTW!! tongue out

I'm having no luck at all with installing CM9.

It falls over on step 2 of this guide, I have XXLPQ and the Guide says Then, install Clockworkmod (CWM) recovery on XXLPB???

I tried anyway but it just bricks the phone until I take the battery out and then I need to reinstall my old ICS ROM to get the phone working again. (No problem as it recovers everything)

Do I really need to do that Clockwork Recovery thing or can I just skip to item 3 on the guide?

Here's a screenshot of my phone details as they stand with my "Official" ICS Samsung ROM.

Anyone got a better guide I can use to setup and install CM9?

Follow the "noob-proof odin method"

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1...

ETA: You'll need to download odin and learn how to use it (really very easy so don't worry about it).

Not exactly Noob Proof but a lot less hassle than the Geekier methods on there. Those sites are a nightmare to decipher and navigate. Thanks TameRD very much smile

I've only had a play for an hour or so but it seems much snappier and responsive and definitely more customisable. I loved how on install it just connected to the Google servers and download all my apps automatically for me, that's a nice touch that was missing from early Android efforts on my HTC Desire. Saves a lot of time.

So far so good, just need to re-arrange all my homescreens as the install messed them all up and just dumped all the apps at random on there.

Superb!

Just noticed there's a whopping great yellow triangle on the splashscreen as it boots now but it all boots ok. Reading on some other forums it's just a Samsung ism so they can instantly tell your phone is rooted.

If anyone else is doing this upgrade, don't worry about it unless your phone gets stuck on that screen.

On that note the best thing you will ever buy if you own a GS2 is a simple USB jig.

Still possible to use if you flash a pre ICS bootloader.
