Managed to leave mine out in the rain & hail last night frown

Worked for about an hour with water dripping out the bottom of it then the screen died cry

On taking it apart there was a weird rubber membrane thing behind the screen which was soaking wet, I think it kind of 'wicked' all the water in.

New Samsung screen was £100 fitted so not the end of the world, costly mistake for a seconds forgetfulness!

Tbh if you have this again: remove the battery and put everything ('cept the battery) on top of a radiator, and leave it there for a couple of days.

chances are it's fine.

Does anyone know a surefire way to get Kies to acknowledge and sync with the phone?

I find the USB connection to kies is reasonably good, but cannot get kies air to work.

Although, when I tried to sync with my laptop, nothing worked. Worked first time on the desktop.

I removed the actual screen & boards and put them all on the radiator overnight, it worked for an hour or so but was a bit random weather the screen would wake up or not, sometimes it would just flash briefly. Also in removing the screen I broke the little ribbon to the home button & soft button membrane frown

Well, despite being a happy owner for almost a year now, my screen flickering issue has come back again after being repaired under warranty just weeks ago - definitely no fault of my own.

Sending Samsung an email - such a pain in the arse having to send it away for repair.

Tempted to get it fixed, sell it and get the One X now...

Just received an automated software update . 233mb I think , so I assume it's ICS. I've downloaded it and currently 60% through the installation process. I'll post back later with my thoughts on the upgrade.

ETA

The install went well , up and running with no major headaches.

There are a few subtle changes to some of the icons but nothing too radical. The default font seems more compact.

Downsides for me was the home screens have all gone back to default settings so any personalisation has been lost , not a bad thing really made me re evaluate what I really needed and group various stuff I had together better.

The network settings for data etc were retained and working initially but once I'd switched it off and back on it loaded all of 02's default settings , as I'm on giffgaff this knocked out my data and I had to re-enter the settings manually. ICS , I learned, stops these settings from being changed via sms or an app so if you don't know how to enter them manually you'll need to look into it.

The bluetooth went back to the factory name , so if you've renamed your phone you'll need to change it back so that any bluetooth devices you added / authorised will be able to connect.

I can't say ICS is noticeably better than the previous incarnation just yet but I hope I'll find some benefits and improvements as I use the phone more

Worked first time on both the laptop and the main PC shame it seems to only work first time.

Strange that CM9 crashes all the time for you (presumably on S2!) - I find it solid as a rock; the latest nightlies are pretty much a fully-featured stable OS, never mind a nightly beta!!

I work with one of the guys who helps maintain CM9 on the S2, let me know the exact problem you were having if you like and I'll see if he can shed any light...
I have been running on the CM9 nightly for a little bit now, the only issue I do have is getting facebook to sync with my contacts.

I just haven't been able to do it at all. It works fine with linkedin, but not facebook.

My ICS update came through last night (with Virgin media but very little branding on the phone other than a couple of Virgin apps) but I postponed it for a week as I use Sky Go on my phone a couple of times a week and ATM Sky Go doesn't work on ICS.

That's not a CM9 issue it's a Facebook issue

Facebook doesn't agree to Googles privacy policy, as CM9 is based on stock Android, there' no sync until FB changes it's app.

You can sync on the Samsung offering of ICS as it routes it through it's own services.

Thanks elster.

All, is there any way of adding more granularity to the volume levels. Currently there are 8 rather coarse settings, so it's either way too loud, or way too quiet.

Looking for some help please chaps...

I upgraded to ICS at the weekend and then installed some Live Wallpapers and program that allows you to download hundreds of static wallpapers called Zedge. Now I'm not saying that either of these are to blame but all of a sudden I'm getting a little '+' icon showing in my notifications bar which upon investigation is an advert. This is happening frequently now. How can I stop this happening? I know that uninstalling Zedge might be the first port of call but if that doesn't cure this what is the next action I can take?

Any suggestions are gratefully received.

Cheers.

Uninstall Zedge and see if the next action is actually required. :P
