From the 5 GT thread, Mrs S is looking for a new car.

We've been looking at a 3/4 year old E-class estate. Not too fussed about engine and spec (althogh nav / Command would be a bonus).

Then I googled the lease deals on new ones.....

£275 per month (ex Vat) on a 10k 36mth - what's going on?? If this is the case no wonder used values on these dropped so much!!! Why would anyone bother tying up 15-20k in it?

Any thoughts?

I just googled it - that one is with leaseyournexrcar.com. But others are in the running and aren't too far from that (when you add up to 3+36 or 6+36 numbers) etc.

Even MB themselves are quoting 359 per month - and I would think you could chip that a fair bit based on my recent experience with BMW dealers, especially if the car is in stock and needs a new home....

The lease deals on E220 CDI executive SE models are amazingly competitive, saloon or estate. Likewise 5-series GT cars. I don't know what they are like at hand back time: I suspect Merc will be more reasonable than some of the more hard-nosed outfits.

Not so sure, from experience with their commercial dvision they hit you for everything, i even had pics of scratches on top of my vans on handover, sell cheap charge high at the end......i bought my next fleet instead!

Would be interested in any experience of MB leasing.

When you run the numbers, shelling out 8-9k as opposed to 35k (granted you don't own the car) but when you take into account the "cost" of that money being tied up (opportunity cost, loan APR) and then the fact of heavy depreciation in the current market, then it seems a good deal non?

Be prepared to get hammered at hand back time, they will look at every scratch, every tiny chip on windscreen, charge for every single fault they can find, made me want to never lease or lease purchase again

As above, very good deals around (look on www.contracthirenandleasing.com)

BUT they do know ho to shaft you at return time so be prepared to have a kitty set aside (£500 for mine)

Have a look at www.lingscars.com. Some good deals on there for E Class' too at the moment.

The website isn't to everyones taste, but the leasing experience and customer service I've had so far has been fantastic. Getting a C Class Estate at the end of the month.

So far I would highly recommend!!

Spent a bit of time on this last night - seems there are quite a few people offering deals at present - a lot of them being the corporate departments of main dealers, so I guess MB finance must have some incentives on......

Spending just over 9k for 2 years motoring in a brand new car seems a pretty good deal to me - you'd lose that in depreciation and vat in e first six months of ownership surely?

There are some great lease deals out there at the moment, but they only really save you any money, if you were otherwise going to purchase the same car. I know that's obvious, but I almost found myself being seduced by the figures a short while back, because the total repayments added up to less than the theoretical depreciation, but then I decided it was still a lot of money to lose. These deals are obviously masking some very large discounts off list price. If you were seriously considering purchasing a brand new example of said vehicles, then granted, some of these deals do look very strong. If you weren't, then it's a bit like when my wife returns from the shops during 'sale' time, proclaiming large savings on goods we never knew we needed! hehe

No, agreed on that - clearly our wives have the same methodology when it comes to "sales".

My thinking is that we are looking at a 3 year old example (last shape) for about 20k - all of these are out of warranty, have higher car tax, and during the 2/3 years of our tenure probably lose about 7-8k in value, plus will cost us about 1-2k in servicing and replacement parts during that time.

We also then have the 20k tied up in that car, depreciating, having to be financed by lose of income on that money (circa 3-8%) or a loan (7%).

Or, we can spread the 9.5k over 2 years and have known / fixed costs. There should be no other bills at all (save for punctures) - and we probably won't need to service it either or put tyres on it (8k per annum max mileage) and the car tax is covered by the lease co.

Not sure if I've missed something here, but maths wise the leasing makes sense non?

My recent research shows that the depreciation and interest on a used 2/3 year old 26k car is around the same as the lease on a brand new 57k car. I know what I would rather have!!!

Just dont tick too many option extras when leasing as the lease company doesnt think they add any residual value so you pay the full amount over the period of the lease.....

I have ordered for my wife a new SLK CDI Auto 6+23 at £250 per month inc vat, Bloody good deal.

Strange thing the deal comes from Merc Corporate via private brokers, Merc retil cant get anywhere near it and are seeing loads of people come through the door, look at the car in the showroom then order it with a broker.

No, you haven't missed anything. If you are confident that whatever you would have otherwise bought would have comparable whole costs, including depreciation and maintenance, then you fit into the category of people that this route suits. It's always nice to have a brand new car and there's a lot to be said for saving yourself the hassle of selling it at the end of the term too. People who say that they would never pay out money and have nothing to show at the end of it, tend to miss the point that when their car depreciates, they are doing just that and it's just the way they do it that differs. Enjoy your new car! thumbup

I had the same thing the private brokers were able to blow my local dealers out the water, local dealer said they were inter net deals that could not be obtained in real life. Well I got the car and the finance was from MB corporate so they are quite happy to shaft their own dealer network to shift metal.

Do you guys mind sharing where you got your deals from. I'm looking at Sprint who seem to have some good offers (again!)

I used Pantheon Leasing they have their headline offers on their web pages but you can get different deals on individual cars from there corporate contacts,
also as you get to the last two weeks of the month the manufacturers are extra keen (desperate) to shift metal and the deals can get keener

let us know how you get on, there are some amazing deals on Mercedes, BMW & Audi at the moment especially as we are heading for the end of the first quarter and the new 12 registrations.

Mate of mine has just put the hammer down on a C250 CDI Estate Sport Auto 10k a year 3x35 £378 a month again through Pantheon as you say there are some great deals out there.
