The stop/start was a bit weird at first but I soon got used to it (and have had it in a Bluemotion Golf before) - but I'm not to sure how it would feel at a busy junction!!
When I got my car recently, I was concerned about the stop/start at junctions as well, but have to say it hasn't been a problem, particularly if you press the brake pedal, once stopped, to engage the 'hold'. You can then hover your foot over the gas pedal, ready to go, and every time it has started immediately with little discernible delay. If I don't want to risk it not starting quickly enough, though, I usually hold the brake with my left foot and just keep the engine running at slightly above idle, with the right. It does, however, get a little wearing if you are trickling along in very slow moving traffic when you might only be stationary for a fraction of a second, before moving again. In those circumstances, I normally switch it off and I do wonder about long term reliability of the starter motor, given just how often it could be used.

Re. multi use of stop start, my hand book says after four activations it ceases for a period.
Strange how some makes are auto inspired and others, ie. BMW are manual. If I were purchasing a 3 Series BMW I would have a manual box but would not dream of one in a Mercedes-Benz.
Do you concur or would you have a manual box come what may. Manual Roller anybody ?

In any car with a decent engine I would always go auto now - they are just so good. My last few (non-sports) cars have been a 540 sport, Galaxy 2.8V6 and now the C350 - a manual in any would have been as daft as manual wind windows.

I agree, the auto in my 350 is just sublime and simply adds to the feeling of refinement.

You can also just move the steering wheel to make it start as I found out at a junction on my new C220 Coupe recently. Frightened the life out of me!

The stop/start IMO is excellent especially compared to my wifes manual 320d Msport, takes way to long to engage first and then take hand brake off.

Not convinced by auto box when driving though. Coming from a Golf Gti which had poke in all six gears I find that it takes an age when I put my foot down. I may have to adopt my driving style. One thing I have started doing that improves it is using the paddles to drop a gear as I put my foot down which seems to make it smoother. Also driving in sport mode seems better but buggers the mpg!

I know what you mean but to be honest that isn't really a problem on the 350 CDI. There is some turbo lag, although much better than my old CLK 320 CDI. Like you if I need the instant response, I will change down as well, but most times the torque of the 350 is enough for it to take off.

If you're thinking of new or nearly new C Class be aware that the Audio 20 and Becker or Audio 20 and DAB seems to have bugs that were first reported to MB by owners in autumn 2011. A number of drivers of 2011-on C Class vehicles with Audio 20 and the Becker Sat Nav and DAB radio are experiencing 'bugs' with the system.

To-date Mercedes have not developed a fix for these issues and specifically with regard to the Becker Sat Nav using the excuse that the Becker unit is an accessory and they are not authorised to work on it, despite being the retailer of the product.

My car is going back on Tuesday yet again.

If there are any owners experiencing issues with DAB or Becker I have created a separate thread in this sub-forum for comments.

Timely thread. Thanks.

Looking to replace our family bus and we no longer need the space of an MPV but aren't quite ready to drop to a saloon/hatch so are looking at estates.

Amazingly, the C220 CDI in Sport/Sport Plus guises (I refuse to use the new 'official' AMG names - badge engineering much?) is miles cheaper than anything similar, and with better spec than the equivalent 3 Series.

I believe both the BMW and Merc are due to be replaced with new models in the next 6-12 months so there are deals to be had it seems. VW wanted another £200/mo for a 170PS Passat Sport - ha!

Haven't driven one yet but the missus had one as a hire car recently and was not impressed with the autobox or stop-start. We had a slushbox W124 so she should be used to autos.

I'm hoping the overall MPG on these is about 48 (mostly motorway and a/b road)? Anyone got any real world feedback on this?

Not the one I'm looking at, it's still the old model. Got a link?

Maybe not ready for orders to be placed just yet but you can take a look at prices, specifications etc.

Picked up my new company car 2 weeks ago, already stuck 1200 miles on it.

C220 SE Exec estate

This new spec car came with the LED daytime running lights, sports grill and different wheels.

Got a few queries, don't know if anyone can help;
Does the audio 20 telephone system only show the names in the phone book via last name........ I remember 1st names, not last names.
Toward the end of the evening, The lights come on , the led running lights go off, but the interior dash lights don't come on till much later in the evening.
What do the little flags on the telephone system mean, and the 3 dots etc...
Got 54mpg on a 400 mile round trip today, will I get more once the engines run in?

Yes, no option to change sort type as far as I can see. Bluetooth exposes the contact list details and it's up to the receiving system to decide how to format them. M-B chose a surname sort.

Never noticed this myself, I was under the impression that the interior and exterior lights were in sync?

Does the SE Executive (or your car) have ILS? That may account for the difference.

One thing to note (and this may be ILS specific) is that if you leave the lights on Auto then you can't get the full beam to lock on. You can flash them but need to turn the lighting control to On before they will stay on. Weird.

Not sure what you refer to, will have a look next time I'm in the car.

54MPG!? eek

I would expect so, I'm certainly hoping to get a bit more than the ~40MPG average out of mine when it gets a few more miles under its belt (currently about 4k).

With the ILS on my car, I have yet to fault the high-beam assist function.

To be fair, I only got the car in June and have only driven a handful of times in the dark and never on roads quiet enough that I'd expect the auto-dipping to take effect.

Should it just work when left in auto, i.e. the full beam come on itself on a dark road with no oncoming traffic? I read the manual when I got the car but didn't pick that bit up 100%.

I'll take that bet!! It works brilliantly (well at least mine does!).
