2005 CL55 AMG Battery/Charge Issues?

Hello all,

I have a 2005 CL55 AMG that developed a strange electrical issue. After driving around, the headlights blinked off and the dashboard showed "battery charge visit workshop". COMAND then went off and by the time we got home, everything (including the power steering) had died. It's a Saturday here in the states, and we can't get to a dealer until Monday. Before going off, COMAND kept flashing that the engine needed to be turned on when it already was.

Has anyone else run across this issue, and if so, are we looking at a battery or more....expensive issue?

Has the car been left out in the rain? If the drain holes get blocked then water can get into the passenger footwell and soak the electronics.

Turned out to be the volt meter on the alternator, but thanks for the advice. It does live outside for the most part, under weepy trees, and it rains in Seattle. A lot. Worth keeping an eye on that.
