I've just bought this

4000 miles from new and as new....never used in the wet.

Paid far too much probably but it'll look good along side my other 500

Wow. Never seen one on a J before.

Mine's a 420 SL. It's now done just over 100k miles but it's in lovely nick. I'm the second owner and the car came with all the paperwork I needed to see to tell me that it had been cherished!

Excellent idea to open this thread:-) Here is our 500SL, 1987,bought summer 2011, one owner, books etc. OK,with 130,000kms, now 175,000. beautiful cruiser,we drive it around 10,000km per year,....but but not so at ease on tight mountain-roads,

(we did Corsica beginning of the months) heavy understeering, but one has to change the driving-style accordingly.....super tractions thanks to a LSD, which was standard on that car,....consumption not too high:-) No winter-driving....

do not ask me about the running-costs;-)

Regards from Switzerland.

Great car......Nice to see one used.

The mountains of salt put me off using any decent car in the winter on the UK roads

Was LSD std on all 500's?

Nice thread!

I love seeing all these cars. Here's a pic of mine from the summer, just turned 30 years old a couple of weeks ago and on about 50k miles.

Thinking of taking it to MB world on Sunday for the sunday service.

Hi there, I don't know if this was standard on all cars.....I think one has to look at the technical data of all types produced, I haven't got them, maybe it was an addition factory-fitted, ABS is also on board....

Does anybody know where I could get a plan with details where to waxoil it, as far we can see there is no rust....

Thanks and regards from the snow:-((

LSD was standard on all 500s I think in all markets; certainly it was standard in the UK.

The Mercedes-Benz Club published precise plans showing the location of all drain holes and grommets about five years ago. I'll see what I can find.

Spotted a lovely red 300SL with top down, in Chorlton on Wednesday. It looked stunning, 200yds round the corner an L plate E220 cabrio. My Merc spotting radar seems to come in pairs recently W126 and a shabby but taxed W123 280CE complete with teddy cloth interior and AMG badge in Altrincham.

Saw this on C&C. Truly awful advert, and being sold 'in the half of my friend'(!).

I'm not interested, but wonder if it's a bargain or scam?

Seems about the right money. I bet it has rust though. Mail him and see what story he gives you. Someone who can't understand what the 'CAPS LCK' button means and who includes a 'privet number plate' in the sale could well be a big dodgy....
