Evening chaps.
I recently read this PH message board from start to finish and, having done so, felt compelled to drive down to my local Mercedes dealership (Brooklands) on Friday and put down an order on a new GTR.
Now, I know it's unlikely I will actually secure a car until late 2018, if at all, but in my experience half the fun is speccing your new set of uber wheels and waiting for it to arrive, like a child at Christmas (it can also be excruciating)!
Having owned a number of GT Porsches in my time (GT2, GT3 RS etc.) and an Audi R8 V10 (manual), I thought it was high time to buy from Great Britain Plc. What a mistake! The Vantage V12S I had was lovely and the customer service I received was of a high standard, but the car just couldn't cope with sustained track use. I then bought a McLaren 12C and whilst its performance is mind-blowing and its doors theatrical, its engine note is woeful, its infotainment shocking and its reliability highly questionable - it managed to blow a coolant hose at the Nurburgring in early April and it has since been with McLaren Ascot waiting for parts to arrive...
So, it's time to return to wonderful German engineering, top build quality and reliability, and a mega exhaust note
Can anyone tell me if the GTR "track pack" includes a cage and harnesses, or not? The online configurator only mentions the bucket seats.
Good to hear another PH member ordering a GT R. When they first announced the track pack it was supposed to come with a 4 point harness, fire extinguisher & roll cage with an option to paint it the same colour as exterior. MB have changed the options lists/packs and associated prices on numerous occasions over the last several months. Best to ask Joe over relying on the configurator.I recently read this PH message board from start to finish and, having done so, felt compelled to drive down to my local Mercedes dealership (Brooklands) on Friday and put down an order on a new GTR.

Thanks Not that I image a GT R needs more power but do you believe the quote from the AMG Boss as to why it doesn't have the more powerful engine from the new AMG E63 S?...
AutoExpress, April 2017: 'Troubling that traction control system is a 577bhp version of AMG’s now familiar 4.0-litre biturbo engine held in position by dynamic engine mounts. Power grows to thanks to a pair of revised turbos, nestling at the top of the 4.0-litre V8 engine, while the entire induction system has been revised to improve both output and response. That’s not quite the headline 604bhp found in the new E63 S, but AMG boss Tobias Moers says the twin-scroll turbos and the greater intercooling in that car are too heavy for the GT R'.
I'm inclined to read this for what is it, but do any PH'ers think / know differently?

I'm going for the Designo Hyacinth Red (I've never had red before and think the hue will pick up the black wheels and carbon nicely).
Does anyone know if the colour above is a metallic or matte finish?
There is an AMG GTC in Hyacinth Red at Mercedes Stevenage. I thought the same as you but on seeing the colour it didn't look as special as i thought it would. Worth a trip to take a look if you can.Does anyone know if the colour above is a metallic or matte finish?

Hi Benny,Does anyone know if the colour above is a metallic or matte finish?
Funnily enough I saw you come into Brooklands the other day - i was standing with Tom. I'm pretty certain Hyacinth is a metallic colour but will double check for you tomorrow. In all honesty, I would think long and hard about Hyacinth on a GTR. It's a relatively soft colour which in my opinion is a little contrary to the personality and the demeanour of the car. There are a couple of Hyacinth cars behind the workshop which i'm sure the sales chaps could show you before locking in spec.
Your Lotus looked delightful in the sunshine by the way!
I have been following this thread since the start but am not usually a "poster"! Thought I would come in now though to comment on hyacinth if helpful.
I have a GT R coming late Sept / early October in selenite magno. I went to the AMG engine factory in March in Affalterbach along withe the GT body assembly plant on the main Mercedes site in Sindelfingen. GT R production had been running for just a couple of weeks when I was taken around the production line. Most cars were green as were press cars for various markets but there were a couple of other colours on the line. I would echo the comment above...hyacinth is a soft colour, not a striking red...to me it would be good on an A class but would be lost of something with menace of a GT R. Obviously personal opinion, but from the ones I have seen, either bright (green, yellow) or aggressive (greys, black) seem to work best.

Hi everyone,
I'm also new to this thread but have read all 18 pages.
My delivery date is September 20th, originally was supposed to be June but in January I changed my spec to include carbon ceramic brakes and the lighter RXC wheels, mainly to reduce unsprung rate which may help to handle and smooth out some of the rougher roads around me. This was in response to some of the Portugal tests saying it may struggle with UK roads. I also will take it to Spa for the odd trackday.
This change of spec late in the day initially caused problems and an indefinite delay but soon I was given a revised date of September 2017.
Having just read this months Evo Mag road test in Wales, I am even more excited!!!
The recent track test putting it 4th behind the 570 and GT3 was with a car on standard brakes, they commented they began to fade, so it may have been higher up the rankings on Carbon Ceramics, it wasn't far behind and most other lap times have put it ahead of the same rivals on other tracks.
I have gone for Briliant blue with both exterior carbon packs, hope that's going to be mean enough for everyone, thought it was a bit different? I agree to the other recent comments that Hyacinth might not suit the character of the car.
As people take delivery, keep the comments coming so those waiting a little longer are kept in the loop.

Ummm...looks like I'll need to see a few Mercedes in Hyacinth Red in the flesh to get a better impression whether or not it will work on a GT R. I like this hue on the new AMG E63 S in photos, I have to say. Plus I've had so many grey, black and blue performance cars that I was quite excited about the prospect of red for a change. However, I really appreciate the early warning chaps so will definitely check it out.
If not red, then perhaps the metallic grey? I'm not a huge fan of matte...alternatively, what's the Jupiter Red option like?
