C250 W205 - Winter Tyres
Discussion
Hi guys,
I am sure that this question has probably already been asked but despite trawling posts I cannot get an answer.
I have a 2017 C250 4matic with 19” Alloy wheels on. I am thinking about getting winter tyres (everything I have read says that this is the sensible thing to do). (I am based in the UK - is it the right thing to do?!?!)
Assuming winter tyres are the right option then does anyone have any recommendations on wheels / tyres? (I haven’t got room to store summer tyres)
Any advice appreciated
Cheers

It's the right thing to do IF:
- you live somewhere which suffers from bad weather (not just snow, but cold temperatures)
- you can't avoid travelling when the bad weather hits
I live 1,100 feet up in the Pennines and can't easily work from home... I use winter tyres on my two wheel drive W205.
If I was retired in Eastbourne I wouldn't bother. There is no hard and fast answer, but remember all wheel drive doesn't help you stop or steer. It just gets you going easier.
Ideally you would use the Mercedes approved size which I believe is 225/50/17 on some dedicated wheels. If you have a friendly garage or tyre fitter they will store your summer wheels and tyres whilst you use your winters.

I would put them on even if you don't get much snow. They are far grippier in conditions under 7 deg. than a summer tire. You might get by with all-seasons, but I wouldn't want the compromise on such a nice chassis, and would never run summers in those temps.I am sure that this question has probably already been asked but despite trawling posts I cannot get an answer.

I use Conti TS850ps here in Switzerland, and bought them mounted on a set of nice 17" 5-arm alloys off Ebay. All in all spent EUR 300 for everything. Ebay is gold for winter wheels.
Always put winter tires on all 4 tires if you use them.
I agree with the above, winter tyres give a huge advantage in the cold, not just in snow. The more skewed your tyres are towards performance, the worse they will perform below 7c. In my C63s, summer tyres are downright scary below 2c.
I also recommend Continental's winter tyres, although in my case the most recent available are the T830's. There seems to be no more road noise than the Conti 6's, have pretty good grip and good feedback (the Porsche rated N0 versions appear to be slightly noisier, but also seem to be stickier).
