Afternoon

Looking for a bit of advice please.
Indicators (2014 cls) suddenly stopped working today. No flashing arrow on Dash, no ticking sound and so far as I could tell, not illuminated outside.
After about 20 minutes it corrected itself and started working as normal. Any ideas?
Thanks

Your car has BMW-itis. Its an anti-indicator affliction, it has been spreading to Audis for years and was only a matter of time.

Could be a faulty switch or relay, or possibly dodgy software. They are not, it seems the most reliable.

Yes think it may be a bmw inspired upgrade. I could feel myself growing in importance as I weaved through the trafficking without signalling to the little people.

Seriously though, does look very ignorant when you suddenly have no ability to indicate. Are there some pythonesque arm signals in the Highway Code?

Did you hazards still work?

Yes they did. Guess that narrows it down to the indicator switch?

It narrows it down a bit but I don’t know enough of the circuit to say how!
But if it happens again you can use the hazards to stop yourself being rear ended when you slow for a turning.

That was a bit of a terse reply, I had to go out. Mercedes indicators have a fair number of odd problems, like randomly indicating the opposite direction to the stalk a couple of time then operating normally, refusing to cancel intermittently or just completely not working for an hour or two. Random and unreproducible very often.

Can be the SAM getting confused.

Or a faulty contact or relay.

Really need to start by checking for any error codes, easily done with a bluetooth OBD adaptor and the torque app. IF nothing it needs a proper star diagnostic hookup.

Interesting. I had the same problem on my CLS (a 2014 as well) a few weeks back. Concluded that the car had managed to confuse itself over connecting the MobileMe adapter to iPhone hotspot. Pulled over, reconnected phone without switching off engine and all was well.

Mercedes and software = two things that really do not go well together.

I also had the same problem in my CLS 2 weeks ago whilst driving along a dark & very very wet M4. I thought the car had got water ingress somewhere and panicked. Pulled off at a service station and confirmed all lights were working apart from the indicators. Scratched my head for a bit and then just turned the car off & on again.

That solved it!

It's been fine since.....

Sounds like we all had the same issue around the same time. Software?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Sounds like wait and see. Interesting that they have history of indicator gremlins and seen to have spontaneous developed faults in a number of cars.

Hopefully a one off. Car itself is great. Feels much more grown up than the 335d it replaced (if not as powerful)

Whilst my default assumption on most Mercedes problems is "it's software" I've just driven to/from Heathrow (round trip c. 140 miles) and a strange metallic sound has started in the steering wheel; sound like two keys knocking together (it's not. I only have the car key hanging in the ignition). It's the second time I've had this noise = previous time was for about a week before the indicator problem happened.

Will advise if indicators fail again (and will be discussing with MB should that happen)

About £600 to replace but strangely since download no problem so will wait and see
