2007 C55 AMG estate - buying advice

It's every single one of those engines, between a certain range of serial numbers - they changed the snapping studs for non-snapping ones at roughly the same time that they facelifted the car.
That said it may be completely blown out of all proportion - the Internet is very effective for this - and only a handful ever blew up.

Leaking rocker covers on this engine can look like a leaking rear main when its on the ramps.
Worth doing the rockers gaskets first, as getting the box out is a big job.
Should be four breather pipes joined by a plastic fittings, at the back off the engine.
They don't usually block, but get old & brittle over time. Cheap and easy to replace.

I love the car, but it's been far from cheap - catching up on a lot of maintenance that was, erm, deferred by previous owners.
I've got one last big bill to come, which will be changing the RMS as that requires dropping the box. Fresh ARB's front and rear, and then I'm up to date.
I had the light rust in the wheel arches dealt with last year, and the bodyshop did a fantastic job - I got the bonnet repainted at the same time to remove stone chips, and may well drop it back into them at some point this year to get the rear bumper done as there are a couple of scratches in it but nothing that bothers my OCD too much to make it urgent.
It's on it's winter wheels at the moment, whilst the summer wheels are refurbished.

Excellent, looks great! there pretty much under the radar considering the performance on tap, sounds like the car's about where you want it now with the paint etc completed, real main seal is a 25 quid part but a fair amount of labour, rare cars, estate versions especially so well done on preserving this one!I've got one last big bill to come, which will be changing the RMS as that requires dropping the box. I've had a C55 estate for the past 5 and a bit years. Feels a bit like the family labrador. Eats too much, getting on a bit but overall reliable, lovable thing.I've got one last big bill to come, which will be changing the RMS as that requires dropping the box. Having had the car for 5 years eyes keep wandering for something else. When I bought it, it was my only car and wanted it to do a big of everything - dog carrying, baby carrying, fast when you want, characterful engine etc. But have had 2 cars the past 2 years (997 GT3 with kid seats in the back) so keep thinking I might be better off with something more spacious to deal with the family duties (now 2 kids) and the GT3 more than covers having something fun. But like the family dog, not an easy thing to replace.
@dammit, I've also got the same rust on my rear arches. Would you be able to let me know the cost you paid to get these done?
I had rust in all four arches, plus the bonnet, and the paintless dent guy went over the complete car, for £1,250. Very happy with the work.
I suspect I may not be allowed to tell you who did it due to advertising rules of the forum, but feel free to PM me for a completely different reason.

Interesting update Dammit, thanks. Do you get any idler pulley whine on yours? My C55 wagon has it quite noticeably but was thoroughly gone through by PCS when it arrived and I think it’s characteristic of the breed. Yours looks great BTW, I need a roof rack too - is that a Thule on yours?
Not that I've noticed - it makes a bit of a whine when you first start it, but that calms down after 30 seconds when the revs drop.
I'm 100% positive that DDR would have mentioned it if it was borked as they've been very thorough on finding things that need replacing so far.
I've got Thule WingBars, which I really rate - an example here: https://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4_tab.ph...
The bike carriers slide off in seconds, I leave the bars on the roof all the time, then put however many carriers on as/when I need them.
