I have to get from South East London to Reading once per week, it's a hellish journey no matter the means of transport, but hopefully the C55 will make it better.

The rest of the week I either cycle or run to work (when it's not bloody freezing).

I popped out to meet a friend earlier in it and was getting 15 mpg, so consider me aware of the fuel situation.

The mpg goes up after the first month of ownership. After that you should see a healthy 20mpg. Not through London traffic mind.

Get yourself a shell loyalty card and enjoy it sir.

Very rare indeed. I've only seen 2 or 3. The guy who sold me my C43 estate had one and it was lovely. He offered it to me a could of years later but I was balls deep in a building project so had to turn it down.

The workshop manager at BSG who bought my C43 saloon off me replaced that with a C55 saloon. He reckoned that car gave the best combo of (relative) simplicity and grunt. He was always a bit wary of the complexities of E's and SL's

Lovely car.

Thanks all. I now have to resist the temptation to return it to a concours standard.

Forget the concours. Get a Eurocharged map ECU and TCU and a X pipe and 400 bhp and 400lbft is all you need.

I would like a TCU map that blips the throttle when changing down, don’t know if that is possible through. Is 400 bhp only an X-pipe and map away?

X pipe doesn’t really work with an estate as it’s a single pipe rather than split all the way as per the saloon. You can delete the secondary cats and remove the resonator for a bit more noise though.

I would be wary of any map which claims 400 bhp. As the engine is NA it’s pretty much as good as it’s gonna get as standard. Agree on the TCU flash though. It could definitely use quicker shifts in manual mode.

That was my feeling. I’d also like to keep this as stock as possible- although that said I’d genuinely like a +blip TCU map that sped things up a little.

I’m making a list of little bits to do, and will drop it off at the body shop soon.

They’re going to strip the arches, then paint the inner arch with stone chip before respraying Iridium Silver.

They’ll also drop it round to a Mercedes Indy (I’ll be in Australia for work) to get a full service done and a report on overall condition.

Good luck with it. That was the scary part for me when I bought ours. I put it in and asked them to change every filter and fluid and crossed my fingers for no bad news. Thankfully it was all good.

Same as you I wanted to keep it as standard as poss. But then wanted a little more noise so did the above. Also fitted paddles which I see you have. I also fitted a Bluetooth/ usb for the standard stereo so I could connect my phone for music. Outwardly its pretty much as nature intended though. Think it’s worth keeping as standard. They are so rare as to be worth it I think. Everything I have done with ours is easily reversible.

Looks like you are London way? If so google CKS performance. They are Watford way I believe. Might be worth an ask as to what their tcu reflash does for you.

I ordered the official Mercedes Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the phone connector in the arm rest.

My 911 cost me £9,500- and then £11,000 over two services to bring it up to standard. I’m hoping that that doesn’t happen again here.

Crumbs! I expect you have a very nice 911 now though. It’s an investment after all. One thing I will say is I’ve been surprised by the low cost of genuine Mercedes parts. Usually comparible or even cheaper even than the likes of euro car parts et al. Don’t discount them.

Eg my pas pump gave up during the cold snap. Ecp = £600 including a surcharge of ~ £100. Mercedes = £185. I find it very surprising tbh and always go to Mercedes first now for parts. Don’t dare ask about their labour rates mind!

That’s good to know, I’m planning on using an Indy but only fitting genuine parts.

I’ve ordered a 2017/2018 update disc for the Comand system, shame it can’t do full post code but it seems quite good (context: previous car was a 22 year old a Volvo).

The Harman Kardon Logic 7 seems to do a good job of Radio 4

Yeah I did the same with the sat nav when we got ours. The system can be frustrating sometimes. Think you need to have a mindset of it getting you close enough, then use google maps to finish it off sometimes. Unless it’s a pretty major landmark/ carpark etc.

It’s from the very early days of sat nav so you have to allow it some grace I think. The most frustrating part is usually entering the actual address. Once you have it in, the actual guidance is ok. Keep your wits about you though. It often throws a curveball. I did um and arr about fitting an aftermarket unit with CarPlay or integrated nav but I like the standard setup just because it “fits” also allows voice control.

Do your heated seats work ok? V common for the base to stop working.

Rear decat, X pipe and Eurocharged map showed 400/400 on the Dyno on my car. It is very loud from outside at full chat like this but no louder than the latest more modern valved exhaust cars.
