Expensive first service on a GLC.

Just phoned to book in the first service (A) on the GLC350d(had it new at the end of August last year)...£367 for an oil change! I'm shocked at how much more expensive it is compared to BMW/Audi. I think I'll be going for another BMW next then!

It's not even a performance model...god knows how much they charge for a proper AMG version. Short service intervals/mileage on Mercedes as well because its only covered 14500miles.

You should of got on the service plan, I pay £40/month on A45

Otherwise yes, Can cost up to 1k for an A service / £500 for a B

I was offered that and I foolishly said no, I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive though. At least I know now so if I did go for another Merc it is something I'd take out I think.

You can still take one out - I've just taken it out on my 4yr old E Class for the first time for 2 services, after realising it's cheaper than paying for 2 individually by about 30%.

Mercedes servicing has always been too expensive. Our SLK is on s 4 year, £27 per month deal. In its 4th year now.

My 2014 5 Series was £425 for 5 years and it’s replacement, an XF, £650 for 5 years.

The BMW, as a diesel, would only get two servicesof course, the others are annual.

I was shocked at the time when I had an Audi how expensive the servicing was in comparison to BMW. Mercedes is a complete joke though, don't get me wrong I like the GLC but I'm not sure I like it enough over a BMW to keep paying the silly servicing costs.

Its tarnished my view of the brand somewhat, and I can't see me having another Mercedes now...I think they must be a brand for the older and very wealthy Lady/Gent who don't mind paying it.

After having several Bmw's I just fancied a change...I should have stuck to what I was familiar with I reckon now.

When i bought my E Class i took the service pack. I paid all up front for 3 services, mainly because i was doing high mileage and would have had all services but still be paying for the plan, from memory it was about £1260. I bought my E class used, just a year old and the first service has been done so it made even more sense as my plan then goes B - A - B, better value for money. The saving was significant.

I did out the individual costs when i get home from work and post them up for you.

How about finding a local Merc Indy with STAR and the digital service system?

absolutely zero impact to warranty.

Is there a reason why you'd use a Franchised Stealer ?

£367 for a first service is not so much for such an expensive car. How much have you spent on road tax, insurance and fuel in the same time period?

Just the warranty really, I didn't realise that using an Indy still upheld the warranty cheers. I think I'll get this service out of the way and then get rid of the car later in the year(take my usual bath on it!!).

I can't really see what Mercedes offer with their cars over BMW to justify such expensive servicing costs to be fair. I really like the luxury/comfort of the Merc, but BMW offer a much better drive and they're much cheaper to run.

That's a very valid point in fairness, I think it's a principal thing with how they can charge so much more than their rival manufacturers that's annoying me.

I'd be inclined to go to the indy and enjoy the 50% cheaper cost, plus it'll give you some confidence for when future services are due.

wouldn't bother with the main dealers TBH, someone has to pay for the fancy coffee and marble floors, let it be someone else.

BMW seem to work on that plan though; it’s more expensive to service a 7 series than a 5, even though, mechanically, they’re much the same thing. It clearly works with some owners.

I was out washing it earlier and I do think its a lovely car, but I'm still struggling to get my head around how Merc can charge £367 to change oil...I suppose I need to be thankful I don't have to service a GLC 63 though!!

Right, when i got my E Class it was on 13,000 miles, the service was done by the dealership at 12,870, this was an A Service, 15,5000 mile services intervals. The prices for the individual services were as follows:
B Type + Brake Fluid £610.00 inc
A Type £352.62 inc
B Type + Brake Fluid, air and fuel filter £828.72 inc

Service care plan for 3 services = £1260 inc, also could have done in monthly payments.

The pad wear light has just come on, and whilst this is not covered by the service pack to give you an idea of prices this is what i have been quoted:
Front Pads - £193.44
Front Pads & Discs - £448.63
Rear Pads - £207.04
Rear Pads & Discs - £459.63

Car is a 2016 E220 SE Estate.

Yes I agree with that, I suppose when you factor in the cost of fuel/insurance/tax...the service costs aren't really that bad. I think what's doing me is that my 640d was much cheaper to change the oil on/service, yet it's a more expensive car(new).

The expensive servicing costs don't seem to be putting the punters off Mercedes at the moment though...because they're selling more cars than BMW!

I think I need to get some overtime in!! Pretty eye watering figures for sure. The service care plan makes it very good value.

Agree with this. If you have a local specialist with the proper kit (star) then your digital service book is still updated and your warranty isn't affected, in theory.

Personally I'd rather see a good specialist service history than main dealer.

Ps..I'm taking my e class for its gearbox service on Monday to a local specialist.
