I have had the inevitable failure of one / both of the airbags on one side (I’m not at home so this is the garage description via my wife).

Quote is £1100 for OEM or £600 for equivalent spec non OEM (both fitted prices).

Is this reasonable or can anybody recommend a suitable set to buy through eBay etc?

Thanks,

Dan

Not sure which mercedes you have but when mine failed last year I had a look at costs even though they were covered by warranty.
I found the cheapest were about £150 per side although Arnott ones recommended on a mercedes forum were quite a bit more.
£600 for both sides fitted doesn't sound too bad.

not sure how old the car is but it might be cheaper to remove the air and fix standard suspension.

It is a 2006 R500.

I think I may give the non-OEM route a crack and see what transpires.

Arnott, aerosus and air something (sorry forgotten) do replacements. They do without the metal reservoir tanks so you need to change both. I haven't actually read a good report of them but that doens't mean they aren't out there.
I have just swopped my amg rear bag for a new oem one but not via MB - bilstein make them and it was 600 for the part plus about 200 ish to fit.
Don't go to coils, its never a good idea.

My E500 has Arnotts all round as a replacement but not sure how long we will keep the R500 for so not with the outlay I don’t think.

These come with a 2 year warranty which is probably going to be good for us.
