Hello guys,

I apologize in advance if I am posting this case in a wrong topic.

I am a buyer of UK Mercedes Approved Used from Cyprus. I had bought an approved car and had it exported directly to Cyprus. The car was receive by me in a very poor condition both internally and externally, damages and scratches in many parts and rusting as well.
Furthermore the car was delivered with 2 mechanical issues. The coolant pump is leaking water (!) and needs to be replaces and also there is a strange noise coming off the engine which requires a lot of cost to be investigated and fixed. Do you think this is normal?
The seller is hiding behind the fact I am not a UK resident, however as far as I know I haven't paid anything less than the the cost of the vehicle. Can someone help and explain if this is a normal situation and if there is something i could do or demand?

To answer your question, no it is not normal.
If it was a Mercedes approved vehicle then something has gone wrong as they usually check their vehicles prior to sale.
Something just doesn't add up with this.
Mind the golden rule is not to buy without seeing it first.
Why did you not get someone to check it for you?
There are plenty of people who can do this either via a polite forum request or pay someone to do it officially.

Well... Cause i believed a Mercedes Approved car would be a Mercedes Approved car. I never thought someone would do this for me for free, and I had decided to spend the extra money in buying an approved car instead of paying for someone to check it, and if not then paying again for another one etc etc.... This is very disappointing experience and shame to the dealer and MB of UK.

I don’t think it is normal. I bought a Mercedes approved used last year, it was immaculately presented and when I did have a few issues after delivery they were fixed without hassle.

Have in mind that in my case it was agreed that the car would be exported to cyprus.

Have you only spoken to the supplying dealer or have you gone to Mercedes UK directly?

I understand the UK approved used warranty is from Mercedes UK as I had warranty repairs authorised at a different dealer to one I purchased the car from.

I have contacted the UK customer assistance (via email) from the website https://www.mercedes-benz.net, initially they claimed they can't help cause I am not a UK resident, and after that I noticed some kind of ignoring to my mails... However, even without a warranty coverage abroad, it is totally unacceptable for the car to be delivered like this!!

Speak to the supplying dealer, that is who you have the contract with and who I presume took your money? No point going to the parent company, yet.

What a mess! Sadly I think it is a case of out of country out of options. Without the car physically back on the selling dealers lot you will simply be fobbed off and bounced back and forth between MB UK and the MB dealer and zero chance of anyone from Mercedes acknowledging let alone honouring the cost of the repairs/rectification when the car is offshore. You could look at shipping costs x 2 and offset this against the likely cost of repairs (and your own time, effort and sanity getting it organised) and you may well be best off cutting your losses and trying to sell the car as is in Cyprus.
I have bought 4 AUC cars through MB dealers each of which have allegedly been subjected to a rigorous 1xx point inspection, prepped and put on the showroom floor "as new". However all 4 of these have had some fault or another that I have been able to pick up easily enough when inspecting the car - I recall scratched alloys, paint scuffs, door dings, worn leather seat bolsters, loose exterior trim, even part worn brake pads etc - and all of these have been repaired/rectified/replaced no questions asked as a condition of sale. The dealers clearly adopt a "wait and see approach" that puts the onus on the buyer to identify the issues themselves or they look to avail of the less fastidious buyer who could not care less about kerbed alloys or worn seat bolsters but wants the peace of mind of an extended warranty/roadside assistance. But unfortunately in your case as an off shore buyer it would have simply been a case of taking the keys from the previous owner at trade in, taking your money of course and then sticking the car on a boat to Cyprus.

I've had a couple of Mercs from approved dealers - they have all had issues - some very obvious. Fortunately, all corrected.

Don't trust anyone biggrin
