Hi,
Slowly getting my 91 300SL in shape!, but......

Headlining and backing is goosed

As I’m new to Mercedes, can anyone suggest a trimmer who is knowledgeable on these cars.

Ideally in north wales/ north west.

Thanks

Mike

It's a really easy job to do yourself, once you've got the material. Most of the time is spent scraping the old foam-backed material away from the headliner board.

I have a load of spare material left over from when I did the job, to match (ish) a pale tan (Champignon) interior. It's in N Yorkshire if you want it.

I bought the sample book from AS-Trim. You can't really find a foam-backed vinyl now like the original material, but there are a few brushed or textured headlining fabrics available. I preferred the colour and feel of the textured material which came a minimum order of 3m for £49 and it was really quite simple to replace.

I used Trim-Fix 120C spray adhesive. You'd need some basic plastic trim removal tools, a wire brush, a very sharp craft knife and a wrench with an 8mm socket to remove the grab handles.

Hardtop off car, upside on grass. Unscrew interior trim at rear of h/top, gently pry off. Pop up ends of each grab handle to reveal hidden nuts, remove. Release headliner board from push-fit clips at front and rear. Peel off old headlining fabric then start scraping off old foam (MESSY). Once clean, measure dimensions and cut over-sized piece of new headlining. Start from the centre and work outwards with glue, applying to 20 cm strip of both board and fabric then pressing down and outwards to avoid wrinkling. Trim with sharp knife to complete and refit.
