She's arrived. Only driven it for 10 minutes and what a car it is. Anyone who got from Arnold Clark know if it comes with the phone cable or the adapter to normal USB?

Hi All,

Hoping to get some clarification or help.

I've received my new A-class 250 two days ago, and I've installed a steering wheel lock bar yesterday and left my steering wheel straight.
and today I received a collision alert at 16:05, went to check the car and found the steering wheel turned right and the wheel lock has smashed through my windscreen.

Now I understand the car should have an immobiliser, but the steering wheel can still turn left/right with some force when I opened the car and without turning the engine. There is no scratch on the car so no one hit me.

I'm left unsure on what happened! anyone experienced anything similar or can shed some light on what happened. I've attached some pictures of the damage

Sorry to see this! Did someone break in from the side windows or was the car secure? Does it have keyless entry?

I am also wondering if somebody has got into the car.
What about the steering lock that all cars have which should have prevented the wheel from turning?
Was the car unlocked when you arrived?

No one got into the car, the Mercedes Rac breakdown guy came to check the car, he found a scratch on the alloy, which meant someone hit my car. But that should not have let the steering wheel turn as if there was no immobilizer, as the scratch is very small. which caused the lock to crack the windscreen. I am now trying to chase Mercedes to get them to investigate why the immobilizer failed to work in this case.

PSA: don't install a steering lock on your car, as the immobilizer fails to stop the wheel from the turning

Oh man gutted for you regardless of whatever happened. It sucks especially when you’ve only had her for two days.

Well this is a new one on me.....I've never seen or heard of anything like it. confused
Any car I have ever owned has had a built in steering lock which prevents the wheel from turning when the key is out of the ignition, and works in a similar way with keyless start vehicles.
What you said about the wheel can be turned with force when the ignition is off.....this should not be possible.
The damage is done now so there's no getting away from it, but if it was me I would be very concerned to find out how this was able to happen in the first place.

You would be surprised, my old Renault Megane wouldn't move an inch

here's a video of the steering lock doing it's best.

That looks to me like there is no steering lock......so what you are doing is turning the steering wheel without any power assistance which naturally takes force to do.
The question now is.....why is there no steering lock?

Have many owners on here experienced problems with their cars? I joined the aclassclub forum website and most posts are owners complaining about problems (some minor, some major). Not sure if that's representative of most experiences or just the minority that have joined for help and to voice their concerns? I really like the W177 and am considering an A250 to replace my Leon Cupra but that forum is putting me off!

I'm on that forum and tbh you have to remember it's like that with every car forum. People will jump over any barrier to post negative feedback and issue but noone ever posts the positives.

Here's a post from one of many Facebook groups where someone asked a similar question:

An immobiliser and a steering lock are two very different things. An immobiliser is an electronic security device fitted to an automobile that prevents the engine from running unless the correct transponder car key (or other token) is present. This prevents the car from being "hot wired" after entry has been achieved and thus reduces motor vehicle theft.

A steering lock stops the steering wheel from being turned, but only once it has engaged, and depending on how much lock you have on, the wheel can turn some distance before it clicks into place.

I'm a bit baffled by why you'd put a second steering lock on. I've not seen one of those since the Eighties, I didn't think they even existed anymore.

Still haven't set up the Mercedes me yet. Any Arnold Clarke leases do we have to pay for it?

To setup its free.

I've paid for two services via the portal/app.

1. Vehicle Set up
2. Vehicle Monitoring

Both in my opinion are very useful and a must.

Map updates and live traffic is free for 3 years.

I’m looking at getting an A class and I was wondering if you could help advise what the service costs would be ?

Looking at getting it over 4 years and not sure whether it’s better to get the maintenance pack , rather than going direct to a dealer to get a service pack.

Will be doing 12k miles a year - thanks for your help

My company car is up for change. I have an A Class 200d AMG Line Exec on demo at the moment and I'm really enjoying it. Great handling and comfort balance, smashing interior etc etc

Here's the tricky bit though.
Company policy is
£30K P11D value - Very occasionally gets bent a bit
Max £500pm - 35k pa, 3+33 full maint inc.

I love the look of the AMG Line, and had settled on a 180d AMG Line Man Exec. But, The 200d is so much quicker, and as it is RDE2 compliant is cheaper for me on tax. I would have to go to a Sport model to get it under the £30k point.

I think I could go without the Exec pack. I'm not too bothered about the 10.25" screen as good as it is, and the 7" is still nice. Loss of parking sensors and dimming mirrors is a pain though.

If I could find a deal on a 200d AMG Line I may be able to swing it past the fleet guy / MD. Anyone seen any?

Not clear on the MB config if Jupiter Red is a standard colour. Any one know?
