First world problem alert !

Have seen a C63 premium 2018, 8k miles, for sale, in the right colour and almost right spec.

But there has just been listed a C63S 2016, 25k miles, in the right colour and spec for £3k less.

Both main dealer. I know the C63S will always command a premium but is it worth going for the newer car ?

I was under the impression that the C63 does not have the option to open up the exhaust sound whereas the C63s does? I may be wrong on that.

But for me, it would the C63s all the way.

It's an optional extra on the non-S, and comes as standard on the S.

Was 2019 the facelift year?

If it was me I'd check the history and go for the S (assuming 2018 isn't post-facelift), from a few reviews it seems the "greater than the sum of it's parts" car similar to a Porsche GTS style product.

A few months ago I test drove a 2018 C63 coupe (non-S), with the switcheable exhaust. Bearing in mind that I tend to be the sort of person that would usually go for the S or top performance variant (just because), I was really impressed with the C63 non-S. I didn't feel short changed on power and it made a lovely noise. I say this as an owner of the previous C63 performance pack plus.

Disclaimer: I haven't tried the equivalent C63S, so maybe that's a step forward again. I suspect the non-S could be the smart choice.

As an owner of a 2017 c63 coupe and then a 2019 c63s coupe my advice is to go for the S. Bigger brakes, active engine mounts, electric diff, better interior. The difference in power is negligible but unless you really want to save money or are desperate for a specific spec the S is the one to go for.

Go for the S!

The S has the switchable exhaust as standard, but I was under the impression that it also has the electronic diff as standard too. I find that it works well and does get the power down well, even in low traction situations! If you get what I mean. The extra power is always nice, but I am not sure it makes a real world difference on the road though.

I dont know, but does the non-S come with the adaptive dampers also? Not sure, but they work well and I would hate to not have the Comfort mode as it does make the ride tolerable. Also, there is an option on the S model for carbon ceramic brakes (front only, but cheaper than most) and I absolutely rate them. Work well from cold, provide EXCELLENT brake capability and actually do have a pretty good feel. Do you need them? Nah, but man, they really work and given the power and performance, might be worth an investment. Mine came with them and I am sold, will be getting ceramics again on my next car.

I was told that the non-S can easily be re-mapped (replacement ECU or piggy back one) to get to more than the S version with ease. I understand that the engines are identical just the ECU thats different, so its a bit of a con to be honest. I am only just dipping my toes into the possibility for mapping and its quite a complex area because of the protections that AMG put in. It is possible, but dont expect it to be cheap or simple though. And here in the US, its really recommended to go with the top outfits that can do this, as it can cause issues with the engine! Oh, and I believe a replacement engine is $60k, so caution is the key.

All coupes have the performance exhaust as standard in the U.K. Saloons were optional for some reason.

So I test drove the C63S, great noise and pace compared to my 340i, found the performance seats a little bit uncomfortable mainly in the upper back.

Dilemma solved though as it sold this morning and I was dithering on the PX value of my car.

Driving the vanilla (!) C63 on Monday so fingers crossed !

The seats are eminently adjustable. I had the standard seats before and found the sport seats just as comfortable but after a bit of adjustment. Something you may not get to appreciate on a short test.

Is the C63 Coupe at Cheltenham & Glos MB by any chance? That’s my old car if so.

No it’s not the coupe, just bought a C63 estate. On 18’s and standard seats, a very fast sofa.

Just remembered, the C63S has dynamic engine mounts... what ever that is.... the C63 doesnt. Can I tell the difference? Nah....
