I have been looking at these and they seem to be looking like good value now. Any owners experiences out there?

Is depreciation as scary as it looks??

Thank you in advance.

That is a good point, but are they that much wider than a 911? I have a 911T and live in Yorkshire so that is a factor as a lot of my driving is on B roads.

I have a GTC Roadster and replaced my 991.2 GTS with it. It is about 6 inches wider than the wide body GTS. But honestly that only makes it more attractive. The stance is incredible and as a car it is superb. It is however absolutely ‘squeaky bum time’ down country lanes...

It is a wide car, but the cornering ability is amazing! It offers such a presence on the road and attract a lot of attention. Far more than a Porsche in my opinions. If you do care about your car, you will find it difficult to find a save place to park when you are out and about. If you intend to store it in your garage. Do check your garage door clear width as well as the width of your garage whether you can open your door.

Thanks for your input, i had a 991.2 GTS, could you describe the main differences?

Think I am getting a coupe now, the dog liked it!

I was worried about depreciation but to be honest my last two 911’s have not done so well either!

I don't own a Porsche, so I am not the best person to ask. But happy to share my views. I have sat and driven a few - Carrera 4's and Turbo's (one occasion was with Porsche experience in Silverstone). The main differences in my opinions are: as a driver sports car, I think the Porsches definitely have a upper hand. They feel much tighter and agile, hence there are so many of them on the road. The GTC is a big car, I think as a daily, you may find the Porsche is a bit easier to live with. finding a decent parking space is difficult. I often look for the end of the bays so I can over sail a bit or taking two bays up to avoid being dented. Although Merc did a good job to make it mid front engine and other clever stuff to improve the agility, it is still a big car to lug around. The GTC to me however is more much dramatic and theatrical for the whole driving experience. I still have the butterfly in my stomach when I get in it. The road presence is amazing, you don't need to flash people, you just sit behind them on the motorways, they will just get out of the way. Due to the rarity in UK roads there are lots of compliments and admirers on offer in petrol stations or when parked up. Personally I prefer the AMG howling exhaust noise than the Porsche, it is not to say the Porsche isn't good. It is purely personal taste - if you prefer a Tenor or a Soprano.

The Porsche interiors are so bland compared to the Merc IMHO, and I actually prefer the pre-face lift GT interior than the latest one. I am a bit old school, so I prefer much more for tactile 8 buttons than all those fancy touch screen buttons. The night club mood lighting and the state of the art steering wheel are a bit too much for me. Mind you I come from a TVR background so there you go!

the coupe definitely looks better but I am sure the open drop top will enhance the driving in a nice summer days. But as Jeremy Clarkson said, who wants to look at me driving an open top GTC while I am not exactly have the look like Brad Pit.

Depreciation - I think any performance cars will not stand well for depreciation until they hit the rock bottom. That would be another three years to five years time..I think? Money is there to spend, you can't take it with you. So just enjoy it. I am not the most savvy guy when it comes to finance, I often use my man maths logic to cloud my other half sensibility and she is an accountant!!

Thank you so much, for taking the time to reply. The size is a bit of a concern, but I have my own generous space at work, and at home it is fine as well. My 911 is manual with carbon seats and I have a cayenne as well. The idea is to only have the GTC. I love the interior is seems a much nicer place has some nice extras that my current car doesn’t have. I loved the sense of theatre in it, I had an SLK 55 for a few years and loved that as well.

Is the GTC a big leap over the S?

Thanks again, David

Hi David. The size you will eventually get used to. But it depends on where you live. I live in a rural so I do plan my routes more carefully compared to the other cars in case I kerb my wheels or going through any tricky width restriction bollards.

As for your questions about the C and the S. I have the privilege to try out the S, the C and the R.

The most noticeable thing is the 4 wheels steering. It feels a bit weird on round about and slow corners. It does feel more planted on fast sweeping corners. As the wheels turn different directions pending on your speed. You really feel the confidence on the car. You will also appreciate the extra horses if you are pushing it or on a track. Frankly for daily road use the S is not a slow car by any means, but I think the 4 wheel steering does make a big difference doing 3 point turns or sharp corners etc.

Handling wise the C I have driven got a dynamic mount but not the S. So it will be unfair if I say the C is definite better than the S as it won’t be Comparing Apple to Apple.

However I was amazed the noticeable difference between the R and the C. The R is a much tighter car, more capable on handling and you can really throw it around. It is a tough cookie that can handle the abuse for sure. The C in contrast feels a bit soft. The exhaust noise on the R is also better and purposeful. Truthfully, unless you drive it back to back. I don’t think you will miss the R when you have the C. The main reasons I prefer the C over the S were the wider rear wheel arch and vents for aesthetic reasons and the 4 wheel steering. Whereas the R is a bit too hardcore for me. Since my first name is not followed by Schumacher or Hamilton. I will only track it occasionally and 99.9% of my mileage will be on public roads. So I don’t think I can justify and fully utilise the R really.

So after a week of Mercedes Benz dealers acting like clowns, derisory trade bids, and "we don't do any discount sir"...

I bought the 2019 GTS Coupe at Romans and I pick it up tomorrow, sold my 911T and my Cayenne and cannot wait to get it.

Thank you for all of your help, an early start for me tomorrow!

All dealers stand quite firm on their prices on the high ends niche cars, as they know the people will buy the car with the price tag if the people are in the market looking at these cars. Unless they are stock and the dealers want to shift them quick.

Anyway many Congratulations on your new motors. You won’t be disappointed!!!

Well done...just picking this thread back up! Isn’t there a saying...”Once you’ve had AMG, you’ll never go back to Porsche....?” Or something.

But just sharing my view on the comment about Mercedes dealers; when I bought my first AMG GTS the deal I got in 2016 from Mercedes Franchise was incredible. It was an ex demo... And in 2018 on my GTC I did get a deal negotiated over the phone from a different franchise (rather than specific dealer) I had bought two cars from previously. Time of year has something to do with discount IMHO. I bought in January...and subsequently December (between Christmas and New Year)...... I think it comes down ultimately to individual dealers and franchises’ attitude and desire to make a sale....

Great car!

Were there any options that you compromised on when buying from Romans instead of a factory build?

That is a great question regarding spec. I just said to my wife, this is how I would, have specced it. The magnetite black is not as black as you would think, but I saw one last week and knew that, I think if I had ordered it blind it would have been a surprise. Whoever ordered it must have lost some serious money, Romans were actually great to deal with. A quick round trip of 470 miles starting at 5, but I really really like it so far! Thanks everyone.

So what made you change your mind from the GTC Roadster to a GTS coupe?

I got sick of not using my car, and we have a spaniel that comes to work with us, he fits in the boot. Plus the GTC's were a year older and the dealers were being silly on the part ex. So I bought the S from Romans and love it.
