hi The missus has a new E350 cab since beginning of Oct. She isn't one for dawdling and has mentioned on a couple of occasions she can be unsure pulling out of a junction as it doesn't pull away as expected the same every time.

I got to drive it the other day for 50 miles and think she is right (initially I put it down to her changing from bmw 435d!) You come up to a junction stopped or v slow, push the accelerator a bit to pull away and nothing for a fraction/half of a second. I wouldn't say it was bogging down as it pulls away fine once its "woken up". The next island you give the throttle a bit more as you think it was yourself but it behave like normal and its off like a stabbed rat!! I don't know if its the auto stop as that seems quite keen to kill the engine even while still rolling so ive suggested to disable the autostop to see if it makes any difference.

Wondered if anyone else had similar feeling?

Tried resetting the throttle response? The drive by wire thing can be reset (see below). Porsche uses the same system and did it on my Cayenne, does make a difference.

Also, the adaptations on the gearbox might have got screwed. This isnt as easy to reset, since the transmission control module cant be reset without the specific computer thing. An indie or dealer can do that. Again, it will reset it and will then relearn the changing / driving style. Might be a little odd for the first 50-100 miles, but should smooth out.

I have a 350d but experience similar. I did read a technical document on the MB gearboxes and the latest ones have a feature where they can switch into a mode where it creates less drag on an idling engine but there will be a slight delay when re-engaging the throttle. In the document I read it said S mode prevents the gearbox going into this extra level of disengagement.

S mode on my car makes a bit of an improvement but I cannot say if it is due to this gearbox setting or a faster throttle map. There is still a delay though.

I presume it's a E350 cdi?

If it is,the gearbox actually disengage's from the engine when you come to a stop, part of the start/stop/emmision's system on the car,I have it on mine the only way I get around it is to drive in S everywhere, and has been said, drop it into 1st with the paddles.

These E350s are “mild hybrids” I think - is the car trying to move off in pure electric mode and then there’s a lag when more power is needed and the engine cuts in?

Thanks all, its the 350 petrol 4 cylinder 300bhp, no hybrid

Think we have a winner - its pulling away in 2nd. We were out tonight and i noticed it was in "D2" as we shot off! pulled away . Her reaction is "pull the paddle? i never did it in 3 years in the BM!" I totally agree with her tbh as i dont use them either. She is going to take it in as no traffic on nav but think they might just say the gears are TADTS (or TADTM?). Annoying as it has no way to stick it in sport permanently

Will give the pedel reset a go 1st

Are you sure? I've got a E300 Coupe on order, thought 'EQ Boost' was the the main difference between the E300 and E350? https://www.evo.co.uk/news/22023/new-mercedes-benz...

Sounds like you've idenfied the issue anyway.

Only just seen this, but agree my E350 is slightly too keen to trigger the auto start/stop. I’ve also configured the ‘individual’ driving mode to be sport throttle response/gear changes but comfort steering and suspension, and don’t notice the symptoms you describe when pulling away. Though that is probably because sport makes it pull away in first anyway.

The Mrs' E350 CDI (S212) seems to have been much worse since it had the ECU reprogrammed at the last service to deal with the "cheat" code. I seems really difficult to get it to feel like the turbo is working off the line. It was much more responsive before.
