The dieselgate recall. My 2010 C250 CDi has been recalled.

I had it done on a 2016 glc 250d. I didn't want it done but main dealer serviced. The performance doesn't seem to be affected, may be a touch slower, but it could be placebo, but I seem to get 3 mpg less unless its a coincidence. I was getting 48 mpg but it is now 45 mpg. It might be due to roads, it's hard to tell.
I cannot see any reason to get it done, especially if older than 3 years.

Anecdotally, I was in my local dealership, waiting on my car to have new tyres fitted (Bizarrely they were way cheaper than anywhere else) and overhead the service guy say to a man who's car that was in for servicing that there was an emission update for his car, but not to have it as other people had reported worse mpg. He also said that if they applied the S/W update it wasn't reversible...so coming from an MB employee I'd say that was a pretty good reason not to have it applied.

Have heard some worrying tales about the effect on performance and mpg, cars coming back running significantly worse then before the update and Mercedes unable to reverse the updates.
The letter also mentioned that if contrary to expectations the update resulted in damage to a component part of the exhaust gas recirculation system caused by software issues they would repair free of charge on cars up to a total mileage reading of 155,000 miles.
This seems to me to indicate that they know there is the possibility of issues with the update and as my car has done well over that warranted mileage, and they add the caveat that they cannot rule out natural wear as the cause of any damage, I think I will leave mine as is until I am mandated to have it done.
I don't see why any owner should have to face an expensive bill as a result of Mercedes being caught cheating.
Be interesting to see how the class actions against Mercedes proceed. The recall is tantamount to an admission that they have been naughty boys.

Yes! 
He did a transmission fluid change for me about three years ago and quoted me £170 from memory, the same price as the previous one he did when I was driving high mileages.
When I went to collect the car he said the price of the transmission fluid had gone down by just under £10 and charged me £160 instead. That included a torque convertor flush as well.
I wonder how many main dealers would have passed that saving on to the customer.

I have, but after registering, it has all gone quiet. The wording on the contract I read seemed unsurprisingly to be a bit vague but seemed to me to hint that this could be the case, with all claimants picking up a share of their costs.
I have two cars effected I apparently could claim for one of which I still have.
Presumably the car's been running okay for years? Why change the set-ups and risk it not doing so. No doubt MB spent a while setting it up to run properly originally; surely anything else would be sub-optimal.
Unfortunately, the small print I've seen on service booking forms basically says that if they service your car it is a requirement that ALL updates are carried out, forms are signed before the service. Supposedly non-reversible. How many people read the Ts & Cs?
I suspect that they have targets to meet or financial penalties for non-compliance and I wonder where their main 'interest' lies, them or you.
If it was me, I wouldn't have it done, even if they do offer a free coffee and carwash.
