Hello all.....
My commute to Work has trebled in distance recently and ive been offered a 2012 C220 CDI.....Auto!
I have zero knowledge of Mercedes, always VAG in the past im afraid so hoping some of you knowledgeable ones out there can assist!
The car is immaculate, 90k mls with plenty history.
What are common issues on these Cars?
Are they timing belts or chains? If belts then whats the intervals on replacing?
How reliable are the autoboxes and can they be serviced?
It really is a lovely Car and the only thing stopping me from buying it is my lack of knowledge on these Cars.

Thanks in advance!
I own a 2012 C220 cdi estate (auto). I'm pretty sure they're chain driven. The auto box is THE only option to have in this car IMO. It can be a bit sluggish to downshift when you put your foot down in Eco mode but the changes are seamless amd smooth. Much better than a lot of other auto's I drove beforehand and changing to Sport or Manual mode really changes it. The box can be serviced and I've read most recommendations saying the bix oil should be done every 40k miles. It's an intelligent box too and learns the eay you drive so make sure you watch a YT video on how to reset it so it learns your own driving style. I got mine with 28k on it in 2017. It has just over 81k on it now and so far, other than normal consumeables, has cost me a set of brake lines, a power steering pump and a lower ball joint. It's epically comfortable, even riding on 19" C63 wheels with rubber band tyres, cheap to insure and pretty decent on fuel. My daily commute is only 3 miles each way and I average about 36mpg. On a run I get about 55 - 60mpg.

I bought it when my commute was a lot longer so I now no longer have need for a diesel, but I've loved the Merc so much that I'm sticking with the brand and looking for C43/C63 estates now. Also, I've had the car for 4 years now, the previous longest I'd ever owned a car was 1.5 years so that says a lot about how much I like it.

Chain on the OM651. It can have issues but fundamentally they sold millions and they are as close to reliable as possible. Listen for rattle.

Perfect car for lots of miles, compact, efficient, comfy. Small in the back.

Autobox again has been put in millions of cars. It's fine. Just check it goes up and down the gears smoothly.

I’ve got a 2012 c250 cdi estate. Comfy car for my 250 mile drive to work. Doesn’t have DAB but you can use your phone through the AUX cable. The auto is good (7sp) but can hesitate a touch. (I haven’t done the gearbox reset though as mentioned above)
The luggage cover is a bit crap, just had to have a new exhaust temp sensor. Service is every 12 months.
