Which SLK?

Hi all, hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.

My sister was widowed around a year ago and now that she's picking up the pieces she thinks she'd like a nice SLK to trundle around in for a while. Thing is, I know nothing, nada, zilch about them! She won't be too interested in outright performance, so it doesn't need to be a high-power version, but are there any with known issues to avoid? Different trim levels? Etc Etc.

Budget is £15-20k ish. She likes this one, for example.

Well, as nobody else has commented, I notice the one linked to has a 2.0 engine, presumably one of the early M274 engines. The previous small (1.8) engine was the M271 and it is good that it isn't a M271 as they are known (probably overblown, but still) for timing chain and VVT sprocket problems. I can't comment, though, whether it is good that it has an M274 engine.

Other than that, if the buyer isn't a petrolhead and is mainly looking for a comfortable drive, then I'd be inclined to go for one with the smallest wheels and without any additional sports suspension. Thanks trevalvole, that’s useful info. Comfort would be a prime consideration as she does have back issues (although can get in and out of my DB9 ok). I’ll pass that info on.

I did have a quick look at the site you mentioned previously but didn’t see any buyers guide although I haven’t signed up yet.

Depending on mileage / commute but I've just picked up a 250d,

It's a strong performer and 40mpg all day long,
Go for the 9sp and its ULEV & £30 tax,

Mine had sat nav but I believe these are only a £150 module so easily updateable,
Parking sensors & heated seat are useful ... I haven't got airscarf

Don’t buy a red one - known for paint problems.
I have a 1.8L 180hp seems like enough for me
16 inch wheels comfortable
Mines 2012 and I have paint flaking off the roof and a bit of sag baggy leather on seats
Getting in and out taking a bit of getting used to and rear middle speaker doesn’t work apparently not many do.

Apart from that it’s all good and I love the way it looks
