Which oil cooler would be in the side pod on the offside (right) front? I have a leak. The oil is fairly dark but the engine oil was recently changed.

I spent a while researching this. It’s an engine oil cooler. There are two in the side pods and one in the centre.

It could be the oil cooler but had the same thing and the pipes were corroded (2013 model). No oil coolers are available at the moment and my garage soaked the whole lot for almost 7 days and managed to get the pipes out. Oil cooler being alu and pipe connectors being steel.

All good now and the garage are always top Klasse ;-)

Thanks. The garage insist that the side pod cooler is corroded. I’ve been waiting 7 weeks for a new one from MB in Germany so far. Out of stock and no idea of when they are due in. The MOT has expired and with an oil leak, won’t pass the test anyway.

Great. No car and no parts backup. Not a great advert for a premium car brand, FFS.

It’s not really the premium brand anymore though, is it. It’s a proper mass produced car, built as cheaply as possible to get through any initial warranty period.
Merc had to do this, or die.

Send the cooler away and get it re-cored? Cheaper and quicker than waiting for extortionate new MB.

12 effing weeks and still no sign of a new part. Not amused. MB Germany have it on priority blah blah but nothing is happening!

This is my first and last MB. As soon as it is fixed, it will be sold.

It would be nice if you could let us know which manufacturer/s have no supply issues at the moment.

Did you consider the above suggestion for getting the cooler repaired? Have you looked at aftermarket coolers?

I haven’t had work done on any other brand…!

The garage isn’t keen on repairing the cooler, but it’s not them paying out to hire a car to keep me on the road but I have now moved 200 miles away which isn’t a cheap trailer ride for a car with no MOT. Unless it’s to the MOT garage here, of course.

If I’m quietly wafting about and keep the oil temperature under 104 degrees, the loss is minimal. More enthusiastic driving pumps a lot more out.

I’m not comfortable driving 3 1/2 hours to somewhere more local without an MOT nor tax past several ANPR cameras
