As the OP is a tad reluctant, I will share the colour and spec that I am looking for...

Low mileage

Late 2017 onwards SL63

Colour, Brilliant Blue

Night Package (black forged wheels, no silver trim etc)

I have been looking for around 6 months, in this time I have only ever seen one blue car for sale (no night pack) It sold in a few days.

With only around 290 R231 SL63s in the UK I expect a long wait for a blue night pack one.

The grey black and white cars for sale seem to be very slow movers.

I would appreciate any input from anyone that has owned one.

I also like the Mercedes AMG GTC, has anyone owned both ?
I agree the nicer colours are very limited, loads with black wheels that look awful. Too many with multiple owners and gaps in the history etc.
The only one I've seen that I'd consider is at Jardine Select but the interior is a bit gloomy.

Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advise here. On the hunt for a R231 at the moment. Is the LSD makes a huge different to the handling? Also 19"+19" vs 19"+20" wheels feels any difference on the road? Thanks!

577 horses with RWD needs an LSD, the R231 facelift brochure says that the following was standard equipment...

AMG mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential.

AFAIK my pre-FL R231 didn't come with a LSD. It was the 537bhp version without the Performance Pack that came standard from 2014/15 onwards.

I would suggest that you're better off relying on your experience as a driver to get the best out of an SL, rather than worry too much about an LSD which is only going to provide a certain extra %age of control in limited scenarios.

They handle very capably, but I would say one of their biggest positives is that they feel very special at lower speeds when you're just pootling around.

On the other hand, they are a big car with monumental torque, so you need good sight lines and a degree of respect for the throttle to get the most out of one on a back road.

Thanks. I am opting for 2015 model which comes with LSD. Not sure if I will feel the difference though!

I'd want one with LSD simply for straight line security, the torque can overwhelm the rear axle very easily.

Finding a well looked after car in good condition in a decent spec is the hard bit.

I bought my 2013 SL63 5 years ago with 8k on the clock. In 50+ years of driving this car is the one I've kept longest.
Mine is an ex- MB executive fleet demo so has been loaded up with nearly every option, including the Performance Pack.
I'm slightly ashamed to admit its still only done about 17k but thats because we mainly use it for road trips in Europe (sadly suspended over the past couple of years) and its garaged for the winter.
I tried cars with and without the LSD and I'd certainly opt for one with the diff fitted. No matter how good your tyres are, without one you'll break traction in the wet.
However, don't give up if you find the perfect car in all other respects as its possible to get a Quaife diff fitted which is probably better than the AMG one in terms of smoothness. From memory the cost was about £2k fitted but MSL in Brum will be able to quote (and remap the motor!).
A very underrated car damned with an unjustified reputation of only being suitable for old farts to drive to their golf club - oh, that's me then...

Just collected the 2015 SL63 today, love every bit of it. Definitely a monster on a fast road! I was just scraping the surface mind you 😬

I can vouch for the Quaife - got it in three CL600 Biturbo's - all Kleemann tuned (650 bhp / 750 lb/ft).
