Having spent 18 years in Oz, I can safely say that the used car prices are silly; the range to choose from disappointing and the ability to use the performance non-existant.

My concern with any of the mega Mercs in Oz is that there were so few to begin with, I doubt whether there is the same pool of knowledge in the 'indy' scene as there is here in the UK...so off to the main dealers for some wallet cleansing!

Just to let you know that this car is running lovely, and has a newly painted front end which looks great. Mercedes Enthusiast have done a full feature on it which should be out either next month or the one after. Had 2 coil packs go in succesion on different cylinders, apart from that no problems.

Wow, I'm going to have to look out for that issue. Will be really interesting to read all about it and see what it looks like now. Sorry to hear about the coil packs, but glad you're still enjoying it!

Yes it's a good car. The coil packs were fairly cheap at £80 from Mercedes for the first one and £40 for Eurocarparts for a Bosch one. Also had the air-con regassed, full service including 12 spark plugs changed. Removed the rear reflector and dismantled it removing the green moss. Painted wheel nuts, new centre caps and a few other bits and bobs. Sourced a remote control for the radio which the car was delivered with. Still looking for rear footstools in grey. I will let you know when ME hits the shops, so you can show it to your dad. Cheers....Ray

bounce

Should make for good reading. Says on the Mercedes Enthusiast website that the magazine comes out the third Friday of each month....which should mean tomorrow for the June edition.

I love those W140s... okay I'd never buy one unless I was full of money but stil am glad to see one being taken care of nicely. With a V12 it has to be smile.
I'd love to see more pics of this one's interior, see if it's a bit nicer than the 420s and 500s, so will check out the mag.

I've got a few pictures of the inside from a year or so back. Though I'm sure Mercedes Enthusiast will do a much better job showcasing it!

I'm thinking I might get shut of my W210 this year, and replace it with an S320CDi. They're getting pretty cheap now.

yes You'd get a hell of a lot of car for not a lot of money.

Suspect that the servicing/repair stuff might not be as easy (ie DIY) on an S Class as the older E class though. (I'm only guessing though!)

Good to hear you're still enjoying her and that she's ticking along nicely. I can't think of a classier or better made car for the money.

I'm thinking on a car of that age most of the niggles will have been sorted, and only the obvious things will remain. Rust, suspension issues, etc. The engines are pretty solid. The Mercedes UK forums are pretty damn good at solving £1,000 dealer repairs for about 30 pence.

So in some weird sequence of events, I think I may own this car now;) Hopefully the previous owners get a notification on this!

Picking it up on Saturday. It has been looked after mechanically. Front and rears shocks replaced, springs, spheres. All within the last 20,000 miles. Obsidian black looks cool.

It's due a full service and I will replace the drop links at the same time. Thinking of using George Fraser in West London.
