Readers' Rides. You start your own thread about the car with pictures. I'm sure it will be well-received and I'd like to see more.

An update on my car.

It has been in the garage since April 21. The rear subframe was removed and sandblasted (new bushes), all the suspension components have been replaced and new brake pipes, all due to corrosion. Steering box removed and serviced (it was leaking).

Just a problem with the brakes now. I have been told they are too spongy. The rear discs and pads were replaced. The brakes have been bled a number of times, but that has not managed to solve the problem. The seals in the master cylinder have been replaced.

Just have to wait now!

To think that in 2008, a 10 year old S600 went for £2900. On Auto Trader now, there's only one 2012- 4l+ S-Class under £25k!

I finally got the car back last week. 12 months wait.

As previously mentioned, the total rear suspension replaced. Sandblasted rear subframe, new subframe bushes, brake pipes, hoses, discs and pads, springs, back plates everything.

In addition steering box stripped down, new seals. engine mounts and transmission mount replaced. The oil leaks have been fixed and a full service carried out.

The car is running really nice, but still work to do.

The wheel alignment is out on the front, it apparently needs front wishbones, as the eccentric bolts are seized and tie rods has no more adjustment. The steering has some play as a result. I am leaving that job for the moment.

The BAS and ABS comes on over 50mph. Possible sensor.

The revs sometime jumps at idle and stuttered a few times at 80mph.

I am changing the wheels from 17s back to 8 hole 16s. They are at Lepsons for a refurb. Have not chosen the tyres as yet, any recommendations.

Whilst these cars are great, to find a good one is tricky. This one had documented service history with the invoices for the last 12 years. Current mileage 144,000 and serviced by Mercedes dealer up to 100,000. Specialist since then. I have spent over £5k on it to bring it mechanically up to scratch.

These cars are no a joke!

Yeah, prices of these w140s are creeping up. I'm really glad to see it's still being taken care of, as I've got such fond memories of riding in this car as a kid and it still has incredible road presence today.

I saw on another thread that there was a question re: whether the rear V12 badges were placed too high - and it's very possible. When we bought the car, it was totally de-badged with no S600 badge on the rear or V12 badges on the sides. So we asked the Mercedes dealer to refit them at the next service, and I suspect they placed them a little higher than factory.

2008 was the recession, so it isn't too surprising in that context.
