... weekend family bus.
All lovely but can you talk about this one please? I tried to find a GL450 but just couldn't find any at sensible £££ or without interstellar miles. So I settled for a 350 and yes, people say there's not much between them for the 0-60 dash but I still wish I had found one.You are correct the GL and ML in the 450 are very rare. Reckon on less than 100 of the former and 50 of the latter registered in the UK.
Most people do not know of their existence and assume it a blinged 280/300 - which can be good thing until you open it up. People on the motorway do wonder why they cannot pull away from a 4x4.
As you know they are a V8 diesel which can be Brabused! This results in about 340bhp and near 800NM. Also considered a DPF delete and straight through pipes but then did not proceed - feared software errors and faults would prevail.
It is a phenomenal bit of kit and nothing like a 350/300. Between 70 and 120 it just flies around the racetrack! With 5 adults it can just sit at 3 figures as if only carrying 1 person.
The ML63 is quicker off the line but with a rolling start the ML450 pulls ahead - until the 63 fills its lungs and then blows me into the weeds.
Used to have a GL420 and it was great. But just a little too big to hussle. Great car and if I did and won the lottery - a "GL63" would be in the fleet. The ML is not a small car (think weight and not size, especially over front axle) but if you want to drive it like a hooligan then it is possible BUT I try to avoid this approach.
This ML is an exMB car and has it all....TV's, adaptive, airmatic, etc but it is all about the engine for me. Downside - the 4matic. Like all MLs they are a pain in the ass but worth it.
I will leave you with one more teaser shot.

Fabulous. Thanks. My previous was an ML320 - great car that I was able to throw around. The GL is only a bit heavier but feels different - less chuckable. Still, the 350 is certainly quicker than the 320 - a climb out of our town proves that but i really wish I could have found a 450.
I am working up to a G55 next.

I'm in the process of replacing my Phaeton with this.
It's the CL65 AMG, twin turbo V12 620 BHP and 1000Nm of torque, plus I'm a sucker for the quilted seats that inflate on one side when you go round a bend to support you plus the biggest bonus they cool you too. It is staggeringly fast real Warp factor 4 Mr Sulu.

Thanks for the kind comments, it has been de-badged at the rear which I like but maybe the exhausts give it away.
Slip it into S mode everything tightens up and it's hold on time, almost cartoon like.
I like the semi-stealth looks. Even shopping Mercs look fairly aggressive these says but this can back it up (and then some).Slip it into S mode everything tightens up and it's hold on time, almost cartoon like.

Cl65 is a seriously rare beast and I've been in a friends white car. They are lovey but can't corner ! I won't hold it against it thought. They also make a lovey noise indeed !
I agree they are not the best car at cornering but the later models with the ABC do corner very flat when you dial in S mode, besides I've got a little track prepared VX Turbo for that.Gassing Station | Mercedes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
