A latecomer to this thread. I've owned this S211 E500 in obsidian black for four years and covered about 45,000 miles.

They're great cars when maintained properly.

That must be one of the best in the country, given all the attention you've lavished on it.

Mine was still sweet as a nut at 12 years and on 145k although IIRC the next guy did spend a bit on ball joints and some Airmatic stuff.

I've just bought this.

I was actually looking for something like a CLS350 or E class. However, as I was driving along one of Derbyshires narrow, twisty lanes to look at yet another CLS with leaky injectors and a blown turbo seal, It occurred to me that something a little smaller might be better suited to the sort of roads I find myself driving on more regularly, of late.

After doing a bit of research and taking a few test drives, I decided this was my "Goldilocks" model in the C class range. the fact that it's a 2.0 Petrol and has only done 16,000, miles made the decision far easier.

The only downside so far, is that I have emptied my barge fund so it looks like the purchase of an R230 SL will have to wait until next year.

These were a steal pre pandemic. Is that still the case now?

It depends on what your definition of a steal is. Prices are rising. When I first started looking at one of these at the beginning of the year, a car like mine was £1500 cheaper than it is now. Being a petrol makes it quite rare, apparently. However, I wanted a little more refinement and more crucially, reliability than the diesel could offer.

I could have easily have bought a newer Mondeo or Passat for the same money but trying to find a petrol version, is even harder than finding one of these. After driving both (in diesel form), I don't think the cabin is anywhere near as nice as that which is in the C Class.

Plus I never really lusted after a Volkswagen and the only Fords I lust after were built in the 1980s, rear wheel drive, fast and now prohibitively expensive.

I did seriously consider one of these, however, a few things stopped me:
1) I wouldn't entertain a 5.5 so it would have to be a 4.7 but any 4.7s in my price range were ridiculously high mileage.
2) See my previous comment relating to a large car on a narrow Derbyshire lane.
3) The biggest reason, Doing 15K miles a year with low teen mpg figures might be a bit of a challenge all current things considered.

They are rather lovely, though.

Yeah, I know what you mean, this one is for comfortable cruisin' ... I have a 997 Turbo 9e for going fast, a TR6 for a bit of nostalgia, and a Vitara for household duties.
I would never have one of these as a daily ... I bought it because it's in excellent order and very low mileage; and there's a chance I'll get back what I paid for it when I sell it smile

S63 wrapped but sadly a really bad job done, directional issues, so it all has to come back off and a new one go on, nice colour while it lasted though..
