Got to love a 190. I haven't bought a Merc recently but here's my 500 looking cold last week.

Over the weekend I brought up the topic of selling it and getting something a bit newer (in other words a V6 E43) and my family started campaigning for some sort of eco-bus. Hmm.....might just hang on to it for now.....

Just bought this:

First ever Merc and first ever convertible replacing an XK as a weekend drive. Everything works and fantastic overall condition; could genuinely pass for three years old not 14. Only blot is some some minor bubbling on rear wheeal arches which is sufficiently early stage (I think & hope) for me to deal with before the sun comes out.

My 2010 E350 CGI daily .. Bought it on 190k in Jan 2019 and it currently sits at 225k.

My 2004 SL500. Bought it at 78k miles and it's currently on about 85k I think.

You'll have to pry these from my cold dead hands.

Love that.

Tried and tried and tried to find one of these but couldnt, ended up with its Black pump 350CDI cousin - otherwise similar spec to yours with 17's etc.

I absolutely love almost everything about it, the only downer being the use of Diesel (and its a pretty good diesel at that).

Whats the typical range on a tank with the V6 CGI?

There is 1 for sale currently, its near me, a Jap import, so very low miles, potentially very nice condition, its a lot of money for a car the same age as mine but I'd be knocking off 2/3rds of the mileage and resolving the only downside I have with the CDI.... I'm tempted!

MY CL500 4.7

Had it 3 years now. Bought second hand for a bargain. Probably the cheapest car I've owned in the last 30 years. Without doubt the best.

Petrol 212's of that era are like hen's teeth compared to the diesels. I was looking for months and only found two; a lowish-spec 350 CGI and a high spec 500. I went for the 500, obvs, but the 350 engine was a lovely-sounding thing.

To put it into perspective I think there were less than 20 212 500 estates imported. One fella was tracking them an IIRC he estimated 13 in total.

She's in good hands :-)

Randomly, I'm on a Whatsapp group with the fella who bought yours and who also bought my previous E500, the 211. As is the bloke who then bought the 211 off him. And there's someone else who bought my neighbour's 211 5.5......

Someone else on that group went to Bicester recently and happened to take a picture of a C43 estate.....which was the one I ran before I got the 211.

Small worlds and all that.

I think there are very few of us who are prepared to run the things, either because we get “it” or we’re idiots.

I prefer to think we appreciate engineered subtlety. We may be a dying breed.

Sorry, just seeing this reply now.

Yes, it's a lovely motor. I happened across the CGI when I was looking for something.. picked it up cheap with 190k miles, now on 225k. I didn't realise how lucky I was at the time, but boy are these rare. Seems there are plenty of coupes around, a saloon or two, but rarely do the estates come up. It's burns oil and exhaust temp sensors are gone so it will do max max max 35mpg on motorway.

I love the car a lot. In fact, you can see a 4 year update I made over on this link. I plan on doing up the engine and drivetrain and driving it until the government stops me.

I agree with MikeInWimbledon's take on them; it's the closest thing you can get to an S Class estate.

In BMW terms, it's more like an Alpina than an M car.

Clearly, they're not well known in the UK, particularly the 5.5. I had a colleague who bought a CLS 5.5 when they were new and he couldn't stop raving about it. I also met Dan Trent when he was doing a feature on my C43 estate; he'd just taken a 211 5.5 round the Ring and told me, very specifically, to get one of them. Given that he was a massive Scoobie-head at the time I was intrigued. I got to the 5.5 in the end via a few years in a 5.0 and I can see what all the fuss was about.

All I need to do now is have someone stick a borescope camera in the subframe to make sure it's still fine back there.

Lot of talk about an S212 500 .. and yea, I always saw them as close enough to an S Class estate..

I wonder did many of them come with double glazed windows if it was an available option - MB missed a trick if that wasn't an option.

If my 350 petrol gave up the ghost i'd seriously consider a 500 but I think it's a tad rich as a daily driver. I like how I can jump into the 350 and drive anywhere without needing to think about the cost of fuel.. I wonder would the 500 be much different?

They didn't come with double glazing, no.

Not sure how the fuel consumption varies between the two. I don't do a lot of miles so it's not really something I think about.
