Getting towards needing to replace my rears, almost 7,000miles so not *too* bad(!)

Mostly likely just put the same AF Corsas on as I do like them (aside from the front wheel judder), even in the cold, but has anyone tried anything else with good results?

And cost-wise, I can get them for £290/corner. Is that as good as most?

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is the current favourite for cold conditions. The Corsas are a bit of a bad choice if you're out in the cold AND wet at this time of year.

I've not had major problems with the Corsas so far in winter - and given the tyres will be changed in 4-6 weeks, I'm guessing, were a) almost at spring then, b) they'll be on for the whole of summer.

It's only the middle of January.
February is usually the worst for snow etc.
I looked up which bank holiday has the highest chance of snow (based on historic records) and it's actually Easter!

True, but by the time I swap, it'll be Easter, or damned close.

Having got through the last 4 weeks where temperatures haven't really seen north of 5 degrees, I'm included not avoid shedding the car with cold weather tyres as we head towards warmer weather.

How do/have the Pilot Sport 4s compared to the Corsas?

Those who have switched have seen a marked improvement. The problem with the Corsas is not just the cold. It's the combination of cold and wet. Get near freezing with wet road and they are genuinely dangerous. I was stubborn about the Corsas until I drove to Brooklands in wintry conditions. I almost turned around when I had very little in the way of brakes on the M3 at Winchester. I have a set of MP4s ready to fit but as yet have not had the opportunity to get out and change them.

Thanks! What are reports like of dry weather performance with the Pilot Sports 4? I had the forerunner (Michelin Super Sports) on my last car and rated them highly, but the Corsas are in a different league.


I've never had an issue with the Corsas in cold & wet - ok I don't push out, but even now, when it has been -3 all night, and wet, and not above 4 degrees for 2 weeks, they were fine. Couple of twitches, but certainly not heart-rate rising.

I had mpss on my C63 and hated them due to the soft sidewalls and movement when leaning in the corners. Not really suited to a heavy car in my opinion. The QF is only 125kg lighter so I'd say the 4s will be better than the MPSS of you're looking to compare.

Have you just gone for normal PS4? The Michelin rep said he'd recommend the Super Sport XL (Extra Load) for the QV?

Alpins are perfect imo if going down to set of rims route like i have.

This is what happens when a manufacturer opts for a track day tyre on a « normal » car.. they tend to last very little and have poor English weather performance.

If we lived in California maybe... but in the U.K. for a normal car it makes no sense aside from pure marketing reasons so to beat the M3 and AMGs of this world around the track where sticky tyres make a LOT of difference...

Most people seem to get a lot more than 7000 miles from a set, unless they track it.
