Just got the car back from the insurers (it was written off last week following a breakdown and bungled recovery). I had the bumper fixed back on in and got it checked over and MOT-ed yesterday.

Today the driver’s window doesn’t work. It doesn’t go up when you shut the door and is totally unresponsive if you try the switch. The passenger door is fine. It was working when I last tried it a couple of days ago, though it was a little slow.

It had sat in storage with a flat battery most of last week. I don’t know if this might have had anything to do with it or not. The original breakdown was it conking out in heavy rain and surface water - it looked like an electrical fault - but the water was in the passenger side not drivers. The alternator also needs replaced soon as the bearings are going.

Any suggestions before I try an auto electrician?

Make sure the door is properly closed - the window won’t rise if the door is only on the catch

The window is completely unresponsive and won’t go down (or up) at all. The switch beeps but there’s no movement at all (or motor noise). I think I am going to try an ecu reset. otherwise it might be the window motor?

Might be worth disconnecting the door wiring loom at the A-pillar, cleaning up the contacts and then trying again - if I remember correctly, it’s a twist & pull type connection - very easy to get into

However, if the switch is beeping and the motor isn’t making any sound, I would suspect the body control ECU (although surely this would take out the passenger side too....)

Does the passenger window work from the drivers door switch?

Just seen this...any luck?

ECU reset would be the first DIY option, if that fails a Canbus reset might be needed using the correct software...the name of which escapes me.

Likely problem in my experience is the drivers window control node/module in the door, they are prone to failure and were updated over the years with supposedly better software...basically the higher the version number the less likely to fail it may be.

I replaced 2 of these on my GT in the 2 years I had it at a cost of around £50.00 each (secondhand from eBay...new are a ridiculous price) they need coding to the system but luckily I had a friend who would do it for a drink at the time...after the second failure I got a bit fed up and hard wired a seperate switch in for the drivers window using a couple of relays which never gave me any trouble until I sold the car.

Thanks, my plan is to attempt an ECU reset first, but need to wait until I am home in daylight. I’ll report back later

First suspect is the controller in the door. They’re less than 100 quid new, or per above eBay.

Coding - not really necessary. It will work immediately. However the odo will flash until you’ve done “Proxi Alignment”, which appears to serve no purpose other than to stop the odo flashing. Alignment can be done with MES, but I think you need the paid for version.
