Fiat Panda 2004 - whining

Just bought a 2nd hand Panda 1.1 today. 37,500 miles on it. Runs really nicely, only issue is, there is a loud whining sometimes when accelerating or freewheeling without pressing the accelerator, the noise increases with the engine speed. It stops as soon as you press the clutch in.
Any ideas? A quick google suggests power steering fluid low, or even gearbox....

Well with electric power steering I would suggest google is talking Bo****ks. It could be the clutch release bearing or a bearing on the input shaft.

Solved the issue.
The water pump was the culprit. Sent it in for a cambelt and water pump change and the noise disappeared immediately after.
