I've just had the rear silencer assembly - upon which I used to oil & copperslip the valve regularly - replaced completely and for free by my servicing dealer WITHOUT EVEN BEING ASKED.

It's commonplace on these wonderful cars - praise be for the warranty, which in my case was honourably honoured without any pressure whatsoever.

Now all I need do while lying under the back end of the car, looking up at the rear suspension, is to admire the 'Abarth' scorpion and lettering, stamped into the back box.

Lovely.

The sound it makes is nice, too.

(When I'm actually allowed to drive it).
That’s good to hear I am up in the north west. I don’t suppose your dealer was up in this neck of the woods.
I am going to ring two dealers near to me one in Cleckheaton near Huddersfield and one in Knutsford and see what they have to say before I book it in in early April.

I guess it could have been worse and the valve could have been stuck in the closed position 😀.

Looking forward to a break in the weather, Then I am going to change the wheels to the OZ Racing ones and 4 brand new tyres,I have sourced some new TPMS sensors just debating on tyres thinking the Michelin pilot sport 4s, had them put on another one of my cars and they transformed the way it drove.

Great result for you on the exhaust. Will you still keep oiling the new one ? As a matter of interest when does the valve actually open ? Is it when you put it in sport mode or opens at certain revs ?

Unsure as mine is stuck open.😀😀
Enjoy the ride and the view ....

Check for rust under boot seal. Then you can give full list of warranty repairs to the dealer.

The valve opens with exhaust pressure.

This is a pic of the valve in the closed position.

It's very easy to move by hand when it's new.

Many thanks, have mentioned my issues to the service manager and booked the car in for its second service on 25th March with Mangoletsi in Knutsford.
Fingers crossed I will get a new Record Monza exhaust. Unless I suppose they can free it up. Plus the roof issue sorte.

I have tried WD40 and other freeing agents to no avail on the exhaust valve.

The exhaust valves seize pretty quickly.

Some people just wired them open.

How are you enjoying driving it?

They are one of my most memorable past cars.

Unfortunately I have only driven it 12 miles since I took delivery last Thursday. I have now received my Oz racing wheels and am having new Michelin pilot sport 4 tyres fitted on them on Wednesday. Hopefully I will get them on the car this weekend and then actually start driving it. Plus it looks like the weather is on the turn so fingers crossed we all get a bit of sunshine.

Looks like, barring a couple of points we need clarity on from the lease company, we'll be buying the lads spider. Other half had a drive at the weekend, loved it and has spent the last few days reading articles etc.
Exhaust looks ok, couple of scratches on the seat tops from the hood, but nothing that I can't see buffing out. Interesting your comment about Mangoletsi Knutsford John as thats where the car came from initially and where we'll be taking it for servicing.

Current plan is as soon as we are released from lockdown, chuck a (small) bag in the boot and do the Scotland 500.

Out of interest, what's the deal with the numbered plaques?
Ours (2018) has one (numbered 500 and something). I'd read the first 2,500 in Europe had plaques, but I've now seen a few 2017 models that seem to have them missing.
Anyone know what the criteria was?

Ive told the other half by the time I’ve packed my make up and my hair straighteners he can take a t shirt biggrin. Surprised he’s not mentioned that actually as he’s looked at every accessory going. I’ve even got a 3D print for cup holders....

Looks like a done deal anyway. Payment going over tomorrow and son is happy she’s staying in the family. Here’s to lots of fun for all of us!

These plaques are a bit random. I did a list of UK Abarth 124 cars by reg plate, vin, production date. Plaques were not assigned in order of production. Also, all UK cars were produced in second half of 2016 and a few at the beginning of 2017.

To give some examples:
300 produced on 07/07/2016
215 produced on 08/07/2016
153 produced on 18/07/2016
320 produced on 24/01/2017

Some of the cars with plaques were registered in 2019. So treat it more like decoration, rather than indicator that the car is one of the first produced.

I suspect plaques were attached somewhere at later stage, maybe when waiting for export or after import to UK.

I found one earlier that was 2 letters different to the reg of the one we’re having that didn’t have one, at that point I’d concluded it was all a bit random.

Apparently Australia had 100 plaques.

Where would I find out production date for mine?

Now to see if we can end the lease on our very dull Ioniq a few months early....

All done and official. Photo credit goes to a mate of my son’s who took this and a few others last year.
Needs a good clean because the boy is a tramp but thrilled with it.

There used to be part catalog that would pull production date from VIN but website doesn't exist any more: http://keyeper.pekidi.com/

If I find another one, I will update you.

I'm back in the club, car coming Friday.

Blue with Heritage, and visibility packs.

Sold my last one 15 months ago now, but it left a lasting impression.

Some OZ ultraleggeras could be on the menu.

Thank you John

The Ultraleggeras are lighter than the standard wheels, I recall someone saying it improved the feel of the car.

Please let me know what you think when you've changed them over.
