Starting to consider my next car, need something 4 door and mildly interesting but with decent mpg.
The 1.4 petrol and the 2.0 jdtm both seem to be in the right price range (2011 sort of age)
I'm assuming the 1.4 is the same engine I've had it my Abarths ans therefore pretty reliable ?
What are the diesels like reliability wise please?

Don't know much about them but they are the right sort of size, look great and seem to be a bargain compared to other similar cars

Any advice on what to look out for, benefits of the petrol Vs diesel would be much appreciated please

I bought a 60 plate 2.0 a couple of weeks ago, 112k, long mot and lots of receipts, veloce 170.
It is my 25th Alfa so I am not worried about much.
I went for the diesel because it is cheaper for me to run than a petrol, it goes and drives very well.
Of course there are a few niggles, nothing I can not sort out.
Autoitalia have a buyers guide on youtube, loads of information on the Alfaowner forum and a couple of sites in facebook.

Just purchased a 2011 1.4. Went for the petrol after testing the diesel as well. It’s the better handling, more fun version. I assume due to the lighter lump up front. 500miles to a tank, low emission zone compliant. Surprisingly sprightly for a small engine.

I have the 2.0L car and think I will get a 1.4 next as long as it feels as quick.

I have just had the egr cooler crack on mine @85k think it was around £500 to fix. Apart from that in the 30,000miles I have had the car it has been great. Nothing but routine service.

Saying that it is going in for a coolant leak again and an attempt to sort out the flashing mileage which is probably a faulty blue and me unit. Oh and the common issue with the rear wiring. Wish me luck!

Reading this back in summary my 11 plate 85k 2.0L is starting to fall apart wink
