Giulietta Cloverleaf to replace my 159 Ti TBI. I only had the 159 for about 9 months and despite it probably being the best looking car I have ever owned (never before received so many admiring glances) I just couldn't enjoy driving it. The engine had a small powerband and it only really came into it's stride 3rd gear onwards. Unfortunately a remap wasn't something I was willing to consider with the M32 gearbox and it really lacked the Alfa sparkle.

Managed to do a good deal on my now Giulietta QV with a modest 260bhp remap and the difference between the two is night and day. Okay the Giulietta isn't the prettiest looking Alfa but it performs and handles on a different level compared to the 159 and the engine sounds half decent too with a subtle sports exhaust system. On top of that I no longer need to worry about the subframe rusting out and the gearbox whining.

I really want a 1750tb in my Mito the 1.4tb 155 isn't enough to test the chassis now I have Eibach spring and EBC Yellow Stuff pads.

Fresh paint, Brembo stickers and Alfa Romeo cap badges as Team Dynamics ones get nicked a lot. wink

The TBI engine is fantastic in the Giulietta, not so much so in the 159. You should do it, combined with the lighter kerb weight of the Mito it would be a real sleeper.

I think the 159tb was diluted/restricted a bit so the 3.2 V6 would remain faster/quicker.

I would use a 159 block with Giulietta bits as I suspect the Alfa tradition of the older version was the stronger version could be applied here.

Thanks, not good news about the TCT though! Mine is a manual so no such problems, although my blower motor needs replacing which is a major job in itself!

The difference between the 159 TBI and Giulietta TBI is:

K03 vs K04 turbo
Higher compression ratio on 159 TBI
Different pistons on Giulietta
200bhp vs 235bhp

I would personally go for a Giulietta engine as you already have a higher base level for performance and much higher headroom should you decide to tune.

In 2014 the Giulietta QVs started using the alloy block engine from the 4C with 240BHP. These have the same max performance potential but were only avaliable with the TCT gearbox which isn't my cup of tea.

It's a 2011 but it's only done 51K so still feels very fresh. It's a bit of step down in build quality compared to my 159 though but so much better to drive!

Crikey, I’d hate to think how many front wishbone and antiroll bar bushings that 156 has been through (or EGR valves)

I still miss my 156 Sportwagon though

We have a 147 2.0 for 2,5 years now. Yes, the wishbones rattle when on bad roads but that's just mechanical noise. My trusty mechanic (built the 2017 Tulip Rallye winning Alfa/I drive his cars every now and then and I am a classic car addict) will sign me in when they need replacement. Noise can be a warning but first check if it's your OCD or really needs a replacement.

Been out with the polish and micro-fibre - I'd forgotten what a relaxing experience cleaning/polishing the car can be.

Also at a decision juncture of sell or spoil (tidy up calipers and wheels), as it's just had it's cam-belt service.
