Tell us, how was that drive home, never driven such Alfa, only know what they said at the time and when new came out I looked true a dealers showroom window and wondering (at the time way to expensive for me though)
also from the rear it looked a bit small/high profile (not so my favorite look) but all in all wondered how it would drive, remembering how testers were very enthousiast about that.

Check how old the tyres are.
I imagine they have loads of tread but they're rock hard and the slightest moisture on the road and you'll be pirouetting along waiting for a lamp post to jump out at you. Much like the dude at Castle Combe who tracked one straight out of several years in a shipping container, or the driver of that Testarossa etc etc
Or they may be fine but just to be sure, I'd check, for the sake of a rare Alfa.

Hi Rene, to be honest on the drive home I was rather nervous, never had such a powerful car before. Also because the tyres were brand new and I was running the engine in I was quite cautious. also from the rear it looked a bit small/high profile (not so my favorite look) but all in all wondered how it would drive, remembering how testers were very enthousiast about that.
Since then I have taken it out every day for an 'Italian tune-up' and the more I understand it the better it gets.
The handling and power delivery are fantastic. In dynamic the car is just unbelievable.
Yes it was expensive but you only ever regret not buying the best you can.
I have always loved the style but as you say not to everyones taste.

I have another original 3.0 (well known car) that no longer has its original engine so indeed has the 3.0 24v conversion done by Dawie de Villiers who was heavily involved in these cars in period.

its such a strange 'animal' (@ Martyn P, no problem, good story)I only owned a Alfa Sud at some point when I had to go in the army and had to sell my than Ford RS2000 mk2 because I got way less payed in the army and needed for longer travels.
I also drove occasionally my Dad's car (back than) which he bought new, such nice Blue Alfa GTV V6 lusso, but those were FWD... looked good though.
He bought that GTV so my mom would also dare to drive in it, he than had to sell his beloved Maserati Shamal... but they wanted 1 car, which never happened, they still had 2 cars and my Dad was disappointed afterwards, until his death, that he had sold the Shamal hahah, I had warned him, but hey.

but you did, so it needs some freshen up? guess than it was in some collection and not say once a month taken out for a 60 mile or so drive?
Yes the SZ is something special, its not 'pretty' but its lovely at the same time
occasionally even I look sometimes when they pop up at them as in, hm, maybe interesting.
I also thought, prices are still not crazy for those, while long time ago many predicted those (together with the even more not that pretty cabrio) would rise and go for silly money... but here we are and 60-70k can get you one.
