Ahhhh maaaan!

Gutted, he (they) were brilliant. Being a child that was easily led in terms of fads and the like, I found the beastie boys all on my own, and loved every album. My mum even came back with a loan CD from the local library once...

I also remember going to watch them live at the MEN arena (or whatever it's called now). What an amazing night!

I shall be digging some BB mini discs out tomorrow to complete the retro feeling.

RIP MCA

I'll always remember hearing this for the first time and seeing them live in Brighton with Run DMC!

stty news.

Decent guy.

Loved the music, but also have a soft spot for any band which has a sense of humour.

Only just seen this.

Shed a tear into my shreddies.

Completely gutted.

Without a doubt the Beastie Boys are my favourite band of all time.

Bye MCA.

What boils my piss is that the media decide to spend two fking weeks mourning the loss of a crack head like Whitney Houston (ok she had a few merits in her early days but.....) and hardly mention the loss of a man that started a huge movement. Hip Hop was predominantly a black working class culture until (with the exception of Malcolm McLaren) the Beasties came along and, hip hop wasnt a mainstream style of music. After 1986 middle class white kids all over the world were now listening to hip hop which gave rise to acts like Eminem and the like. They made wonderful tunes with great videos, their tounges were planted very much in their cheeks and they made hip-hop fun again staying very much away from the whole gangsta thing. He will be sadly missed and as far as Im concern his music will be played a lot longer and louder than Whitney Houston's!

The Beastie boys are terribly under rated in the press regarding their influence on many artists, but **** the press. Adams peers know how great he was, with many tributes and dedications from them.

Thom Yorke said,
"I was very sad to hear the news of Adam Yauch’s death yesterday. We looked up to the Beastie Boys a lot when we were starting out and how they maintained artistic control making wicked records but still were on a major label, and the Tibetan Freedom Concerts they organized had a very big influence on me personally and the way Adam conducted himself and dealt with it all impressed me a lot. He was a mellow and v smart guy. May he rest in peace."

late to the part I know, but I've just been reminding myself of some of the BB's work - when a band has the sense of humour they do, it's easy to forget that they made some damn fine music as well. Shame that the only sign on the street I've seen was a record store salesman wearing a beastie boys shirt - I miss the sort of send of jackson was given, where for a whole day the mediocre chart toppers of this week and the inane d-list celeb chatter clogging up the radios was replaced by just remembering a stload of good music. For anyone interested Zane Lowe dedicated the second half of yesterdays show to Adam, worth checking out for the 25 minutes live at the end.
