Seen what looks like a nice example of one of these near me. Anything I need to specifically check has been done at 91000 miles?

Cambelt should have been done about 3 times now - owners club recommends one every 30k. If not done, it's a risk that could kiss goodbye to the engine.

Oh the air-con definitely won't work, and no, it doesn't 'just need a re-gas'!

Rear axle, check for any play and view wheels from back to check they are not cambered caused by failing bushes.Having said that a replacement axle is only £350 so don't let it put you off what is a very enjoyable car.I personnaly own a Xsara VTS which is basically the same car underneath and for a blend of power, economy comfort and fun anything with xu10 engine and 306/Xsara chassis is bargain basement fun.

Are they reasonably economical then? Tbh, anything over 30mpg would be a breath of fresh air after my old Volvo.

I'll not be using it for commuting. Bar the odd supermarket 2 miles each way it'll be 20 miles minimum on A roads.

Went to see it last night. Lovely interior, very few squeaks and rattles, engine sounds sweet. FULL service history, mostly main dealer. 3 previous owners, goes like stink and makes a lovely noise. Oh, and the aircon does work.

Downsides are a few parking dings and stone chips and the odd bubble that I can easily get after.

I'm giving him a deposit tonight!

Thanks all for the advice.

Have to plug 306oc.co.uk as a good forum with lots of knowledgeable members and no subscription fee.

Again look forward to seeing some pictures of it...And amazed that the aircon works!

the gti6 is the best and last of decent peugeot hot hatches, bar the 205gti

i own a 306 rallye, and have spent wisely on essential upgrades.

it's no slouch, and i have upset a few modern hot hatch owners smokin

Currently on the lookout for one myself, after owning 1.9 and 2.0 Dturbo's whilst a student I've got an itch for a standard late phase 3 car in either China Blue or Diablo Red... not proving that easy to find.

Enjoy, and post pictures of course!

Well what reg is it?

If it has frosted headlights and the rub-strips down the sides are more square-edged then it's likely a phase 2 and will be Nile Blue. These stopped in 1998 I believe, so anything V-plate onwards should be China Blue (but stranger things have happened...)

oops. And look at the chaos you caused. I always try not to crash them. The Volvo the other week was the first one I've done for about 15 years or so.
