Hi Guys.

I've recently bought a 147 JTDM, the previous owner says the cambelt has been changed but has no proof so i want to get it check out.
Is there a way of checking a cambelt on one of these? or can you only see it as you start to strip it, ie easier just to have it changed?

And can anybody recommend a garage around the leeds/huddersfield area.

Cheers

I'd be more inclined to find out where the PO is supposed to have had the cambelt changed and call them to check.

As Wrinx says best if you can contact the garage that did the work.

However, if you decide to proceed with a belt change etc, Turin Motors seem to have a decent reputation in that area

Been in contact with the garage and they said they don't keep records for that long. So in that case, it's either not been done or was long enough ago to have it changed again now anyway. Have also been in contact with turin, they are quoting £435 for cambelt, water pump, tensioner and anti freeze. Sounds a bit pricey to me, what do you guys think! wish i had the time to do it myself but just haven't, ah well!

£435 is a bit rich for cambelt & waterpump change as It can be done for £350 at other specialists - unfortunately there aren't any others in Leeds which is probably why Turin charge that amount. Alfatech in Huddersfield, JJB Motors in York are a couple of alternatives that spring to mind. There's a list here; http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/yorkshire/136347-lo...

Cheers Bobda, I'm glad you felt the same. I had a quote from a local garage for £323 but as not being a specialist i'm not keen. waiting for a quote from JJB now.

The best value Alfa specialist I know in the UK at the moment is 'A for Alfa', but he's a bit further south than Yorkshire.

Maybe worth calling him and getting a price?

Thanks for that, Have checked their website and wow yes they are cheap, but it is a 3 hour drive each way. might be worth it mind if i can't find anyone close to that price!

Can vouch for Alfatec in Hudds. They did the clutch/cambelt/upper arms on my 156 V6, Danny had the scars to prove it (well scratches on his arms!). Cant miss it - right next to the Galpharm stadium.

Also these guys have a good rep - never used them personally though.

CW Lear = Wyn Lear who is a fantastic Alfa mechanic. Sadly he moved to New Zealand a few years ago, sold the buisiness and they trade under his name. I've heard mixed things about them, some good some not so.

A for Alfa would be worth a trip south IMO if you have the time
