Muse the 2nd Law- Album Stream
Discussion
Came across this from the guardian this morning,
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2012/sep...
First impressions are that it is very dubstepped (Sp?) but enjoying it all the same, though it is not a patch on their older stuff!

Understatement of the century! Madness is an awful awful song as is the second single Panic Station that I heard on Xfm last night. Utter guff IMHO. How can this be the same band who did Plug in Baby and Hysteria?
The first proper rock gig I saw was Skunk Anansie back in 1998. Muse supported them on that tour literally weeks before they exploded onto the mainstream. I think back to that night and can't believe it's the same band. Saddening. Need to listen to the album I suppose but I'm not hopeful. Ironically they have The Joy Formidable supporting them on the tour, whom I hold in a similar high regard as I held Muse 10 years ago.
Right, further listening now I've bought it. After about 4 listens my impressions are that it is a bit messy and doesn't flow that well as an album. I hadn't read anything of it beforehand so the two songs towards the end with the different vocalist surprised me as it sounds like a completely different band! 'Save Me' is actually one of my favourites though! (if a bit auto tuned!)
Loads of the earlier tracks sound like others. 'Explorers' is a duller version of 'Invincible' for example, and 'Follow Me' is likewise very familiar. I wish they hadn't put that terrible Olympic track on there. 'Animals' is classic Muse with great guitar work, probably the best track on the album.
Overall better than the previous album but otherwise not great!
I love the heavier side of Muse, but also part of me would also quite like it if they went off down a more classical road - I like the instrumental track at the end of this one and the symphony at the end of the last one.

on the olympic track I just skip it when it comes around. I think panic room is a poor poor song.
Some glimmers of hope on the album though, really enjoy Madness, I also quite like the last couple of heavily dubstepped tracks.
I actually prefer the resistance at the moment but I think that is because I have listened toit plenty and it grew on me. Still nowhere near the standard of tracks like Plug in baby and the cave.

I'm a long time Muse fan. The album is playing on my laptop at the moment and it's just not getting me excited at all. It's just background noise, mainstream guff. What a crying shame.
^^ This. But I'm going to persist - hopefully it'll grow on me like the last one did. I appreciate their need to do new things and explore new avenues, but this album is a bit "beige" considering what's gone before.Dear god, it makes beige sound exciting, I tried but got bored stless. I am probably Bellamys biggest fan and put up with their drama and pomp for the occasional burst of his stunning ability to make a guitar sound on the edge of expiring......this has too little, if any, of that so ......ahm oot
Haven't bothered with this album. After being very impressed with everything up to black holes and revelations and only having one or two decent tracks on the last album, I'm not expecting very much, and tbh it sounds like I'm not missing out.
Listen to showbiz or origin of symmetry and tell me that band needs to sound more 'dubsteppy' ffs.
As posted above, a great shame.
