Is this viable? My old Cerb made a noise that would wake the dead, and an unholy overrun. The Tuscan is at the moment decatted with standard cans, and there's not enough volume. Pops and bangs are at too much of a premium too as it stands. That said, despite the laugh-out-loud hooliganism of a ridiculously noisy exhaust set-up, sometimes it's nice to settle down for a bit. Leading to the question... Has anybody on here tried this? Is it a possibility or are there factors to displace the theory?

I have just decatted mine and I also have the HUGE ACT larger bore end cans, it is bloody mental and sounds like the end of the world. Measured 108Db (normal running was 104, bangs took it upto 108)
Chucked on the standard end cans and brought the noise right back down to a manageable 100Db with less angry bangs and pops.
So to answer your question, yes it is possible to have a fairly easy fix to cut down noise if required.

What rpm were you at 108. I had mine checked the other day at brands hatch and it was bang on 105db at 4500 rpm.

Do you mean a switchable exhaust valve?

Odd that you've posted this question as I was soon to post a review of some new exhaust cans that Powertech made up. I've just fitted these cans to me 4.3 decat and they do exactly what you're looking for.

They're 80% sleeved but with a small bit (5-8cm) of perforated pipe in the middle of the length. At lower rpm, they sound pretty much identical to me standard cans did. Low rumble.. but not noisy in the normal sense.
Give it some beans and once the revs get up above 3.5k, they take on a much much louder and totally different note... basically identical to this (from inside the car) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSlkKO-ERD0

It's had more than a few people actually laughing at the difference from sounding like the devil himself when going for a fast drive, and then pootling through a town/village where it is so civil.

If you're coming on the tunnel run then keep an ear out or come and say hello!

Interesting. As far as I know mine is totally standard apart from sleeved cans but still doing 105 db. Would have thought the decat would have been much louder.

Mine is decaf and bigger bore as well.
Don't know how loud but it's LOUD.

This solution 'sounds' interesting.
